It looks really obnoxious, and is incredibly large for no real reason.
Actually it's large because it's a hybrid. It's also supposed to cool off your RAM.

That's almost 100% completely useless. So yet again, no real reason for being that large.

I agree the color scheme is meh, but it's one of the best if not best performing CPU coolers outside of custom liquid cooling.

I agree that Noctua fans are some of if not the best fans out there, but if you're going to be putting something all over your case as you would be with fans then they have to look the part as well, especially so if you have a window on the sidepanel.
You don't really want to open up your case and just sigh with vague disgust as soon as you clap eyes on the woefully mismatched colors.

I just don't think that performance is worth sacrificing visual appeal for

Currently selling my Dell Inspiron 620 for $800 to a huge sucker willing customer on craigslist. I also have ~$240 laying around, so $1024 budget for a much better computer and monitors. Thoughts on this?

Well anything that's similar to the NH-D14 is also good. You could also replace the fans if you really hated it so much. I stopped caring about how the inside of my case looked apart from cable management and any fans because it's rare that I look through the window.

Slick.

The equivalent (and if not better) to the Noctua is the Phanteks I posted. Essentially it's the Noctua, but larger and comes in a whole bunch o' colors.

Those are so sick looking. When I was purchasing my Noctua NH-D14 I only saw a few of the alternatives that really didn't look much better. I would have gladly chose one of those now though.

Not really, that's a super basic heatsink.

Mm, not basic at all, just fanless - but the fact that it has the Decepticon logo on the top of each fin block makes me cringe a bit.

Um. You add fans on it. That's just the heat sink. The black is sweet.

And that makes it a basic heatsink, it's nothing special. I'm sure there are tons of those made by tons of companies that are basically the same except for some minor differences.

I know it uses fans, but I mean it's probably one of the cheapest types and almost every company makes one.

You're confusing me here - since when is this cheap? it's $65 on it's own, and it's a good, direct-contact heatsink. I don't know where you're getting "every company" 's information from but this is a pretty decent heatsink.

This is "nothing special".

anational socialistng heatsink probably can even keep a cpu under 90 degrees! amazing technology these days

Something that laptops need to change, honestly, because these die out so quickly.

Cooler Master Hyper 212 Evo.

I've been using this to replace the stuffty Intel stock cooler for awhile now and it can cool my i5-2500k @4.5GHz(OC'd) very nicely.

My idle is around 20-25C degrees.
