Bump. I'm building up a workstation computer for a friend, I'm not sure if it will need a gpu or not. She's mostly going to be using it for image editing and maybe some CAD blueprints, or model rendering. Currently I put a gtx 650 on the build as it's somewhat of a budget build but if I could take it off it'd be great.

If it would need one and you have a better card suggestion let me know. Budget on GPU is $120

also one more detail it's going to be in a mini atx case so lower profile would be good.

Use a R9-270 with a cheaper CPU or R9-260 with the same CPU

Hope this helps.

This list is out of date. I will make a new one soon. (hopefully)

guys halp
I already told you that kit is fine, it can run at 1.5v

i set shopping filters to ONLY give me 1.5v rams.

anything higher is attempted stock overclocking. meaning you cant overclock properly on top, without making the heat or crash errors.

ddr3 dosnt need the voltage or to be creating heat. those days for ram are over

I already told you that kit is fine, it can run at 1.5v

oh, thanks

Also, is there any possible way to make my build cheaper? Any parts that I can swap out for cheaper, maybe?

so, I'm planning in the far future to get a really good gaming computer

originally I've been looking at places like http://www.ibuypower.com/ and http://www.cyberpowerpc.com/ but I think if you just buy the parts yourself, it's much cheaper

i'm looking for a PC that can run games like skyrim or battlefield 4 (high graphics games) without lag. not really looking for style (case lights, case style, engraving, etc.), just a good gaming PC.

and accessory wise, mainly looking for a good mouse, keyboard, headset, and monitor.

this probably won't happen for a while, but I'd like it to be a good investment

any ideas?

You can probably find a cheaper motherboard, that one's kinda in the pricey range.

It's usually not a good idea to selectively cheap out on components. If you're looking to cut cost (and preserve value) you should downgrade to an i5-4670k and R9 290X, you'll spend a lot less and not lose much performance at all. Otherwise, keep everything at the quality it is (except maybe the motherboard, that one costs a lot because it's very reliable but there are cheaper choices that are very good as well)
Please get a better hard drive

You shouldn't put together a components list until you have a budget and you're ready to order it on the spot. Technology moves so fast that in as little as a month your build may be outdated.

I don't see anything wrong with that HDD.

Please get a better hard drive

you realize that this doesn't help me in the slighest because why the forget would i even choose that hard drive if i didn't think it was good?

what HDD would you reccomend?

I'm not going to brag or anything but I have a Seagate and it survived drops and has a few bad sectors. Makes a stuffload of noises when it starts but it still works and I'm running Windows on it. I always had Seagate and Western Digital. IMO, they're the best at HDDs.

I told you like a 2 weeks ago ago what hard drive you should use
Use this for your HDD because peer pressure. You could also look into getting a 120-240gb capacity SSD if you've got more to spend.
