i've only bought one copy of windows 7
its worked on 3 different PCs multiple different times

Technically you can also use a key up to 2-3 separate times from a single windows key, unless of course, you have certain agreements attached to your key like some of my copies I can install unlimited amount of times thanks to Dreamspark.

its a key from a store bought and i heard someone say the keys on those work for hundreds of them before they buy a new key

This is true, so long as the OS is installed to one computer at a time, so if you have two+ machines it can only be on one machine at a time.

EDIT:  Oh and I found Piecrunt's answer, OEM versions are tied to the motherboard versus retail versions which are just based on my above answer.

I guess I wasn't clear, I was talking about use as a normal computer, not a server.
I know the basics of using SSH and the fact servers don't really use GPUs, I was just saying I was pissed at how I had to install the drivers for the Azio Keyboard all the time.

yo is that a bong on the left?
actually it looks like a bong, 2 mason jars with weed in them and a herb grinder.

What about BIOS flashing? Wouldn't that basically remove your key?
It's determined by hardware IDs, not the BIOS revision.

I see, that makes sense.

I installed my OEM version of windows 7 awhile ago on my new motherboard and it worked fine.

my very paranoid friend is looking to pick this up

Seagate has a bad rep for noisy HDDs or even failing HDDs, I would go with something Western Digital, if you can go for a SSHD for Extra Storage.

I have best luck with WD hard drives.

I loving hate my Seagate 1TB 7200 Rpm drive, its noisy as forget, does WD have any SSHDs? Because I'm looking to buy a 1TB SSHD but I don't want to go seagate anymore.

Also my Main drive is a Samsung 850 Evo 120GB SSD.

You'll have to look that up, I haven't a clue.
