Author Topic: Ideas for the next big Blockland update  (Read 6334 times)

Bump and updated the topic with a few more ideas

Baked shadows is one of those ideas that really made me go: Wait what, that would be pretty damn useful.

Quote
-Brick reflection (you know when Lego bricks reflects stuff a little? Yeah basicly this)
-Water reflection and waves (we all know the water on the environment settings lacks waves)
-A way to prevent emitters/lights/rain/snow from going through bricks (suggested by Dante77)
-Hair customization (suggested by Trogtor)
Hmm, I the brick reflection seems interesting. But I don't think it would work well. It would make everything, even things meant to look like grass or something like that, look like plastic. Also, to make it look good, it would have to render the area a second time right? Sort of like shadows, but this would be more intensive because it would be in addition to shadows. I think it'd be better if this was an added colorfx, just to make it look kind of reflective, but really isn't. Same thing for water reflection, even if it seems like a good idea, I doubt it will happen.

As for the emmiters/precipitation
Doing this for real would require raycasting against bricks for every raindrop.  It ends up being hundreds of raycasts per second and the performance impact is just too much.  Raycasts shouldn't be that expensive but they are, and overhauling the raycast system is not a small task.

However, waves and hair customization seem like great ideas

It would be nice if a Particle Creator Viewer were to be made, where (either in or out of game) you could use sliders and perhaps a drop-down box to select textures and such to modify and view the particle effect in real-time; instead of fiddling around with numbers all day.

I really love the Baked Shadows idea. I thought v21 was going to have an option like that, but sadly, it didn't. It would be a great feature, and the shadows could be baked at a higher resolution. As mentioned in Ladios' thread, it would be good for minigames and such - but it would also benefit screenshots.

I have a few ideas here that me and Pablo came up with on a Steam chat:
-better vehicle physics (no more crazy bumping, getting stuck into another vehicle, getting throwed away out of nowhere, all that annoying stuff)
-new avatar customization options (including beta parts why not)
-Moving clouds support on skyboxes
-More vehicle features (lights, new sounds and stuff)
-New walk(when you press C) and swim animations
-Default Terrain generator with ramps ( not all blocky like in Minecraft that we need to jump everytime and that always blocks the vehicles, and with this we could be able to go skiing again!)
-Default elevator that goes on all the directions
-Baked Shadows (suggestion from Ladios - http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=217670.0 Which is brilliant)
-Fixed the high ammount of brightness on lights with Shaders on, yeah I know there is an add-on for that but it's outdated already
-Gamemode Editor (Something like the Mission editor, where you can choose where the character spawns, the objectives, events happening and stuff like that)
-Transparent plumes that it's able to look through bricks, transparent player parts that goes invisible behind windows and stuff like that should be fixed
-More visible lights (it sucks how everything far away looks all dark, the limit of lights we can see are 7)

The ones in bold are my favorites.

Remember how you can upload a spray in source games like Tf2?
Why not be able to DRAW your avatar texture. (Or at least the face.)

Directional lighting.
A brick can make a sunlight ray that points in the direction the player chooses.

die

An option to have the old main menu.

An option to have the old main menu.
Probably not going to happen

more likely to happen things we need:

needs orb brick shifting fix
ability to hold backspace
when your typing in chat it doesn't go away when the game finishes loading
players auto reconnect after you change the gamemode

Brick Stud Normal Texture for shaders

die
yeah he did lol

VALVe uses a cloud which I doubt Blockland can support that

Disable Shininess

Also, instead of hair bricks, we can just make 4-sided faces. Or a hair hat that goes along with the default hair faces, you know, just cus.

We also need apply able decals like bullet holes. Originally suggested as "spray paint"

An option to have the old main menu.
The new menu is newbie friendly, but advanced users would prefer the classic one. It should be brought back as the "Classic" or "Advanced" menu

How about a better building animation.
It's (No offensive to Badspot) pretty lame how all we do is take out a 2x2f then place ghost brick and plant.
Why not hold the ghost brick then plant.
But then again, baseplates wouldn't work for that :/
