You pay all that money for portability, but almost completely lose gaming performance unless you're willing to pay big time. Sometimes, computer companies try to entice gamers by putting a standalone card in the computer that is pretty much subpar. 512 MB RAM isn't going to go very far with any decent games, yet you pay 50$ for it (because it burned out) purely because it's "mobile".
You're obviously convinced that vram has any effect on performance. That card can run Battlefield 3 very nicely, I've done it on a friend's laptop.

I really hope that you realize that RAM does affect performance.

games dont need more then like 512mb of dedicated memory on the video.
i have rarely even seen a game use that much, on any modern game.

just because modern huge video cards have 1g cards dont mean they use it. its really all about the real computer RAM usage, and the video card's core speed

Idk, I have a GTX660ti with 3GB and I find it having no problem with insane texture details.

one of you said VRAM, the other said RAM, you sure you guys know what you're talking about ... ?

jeep you obviously know nothing about computers

Laptop + Gaming = Disaster
I have a laptop that can run almost any game I have on max settings.

yeah i have a 3gb card and on GTA 4 I maxed it out at 1gb.

um.... then you agree with me?

what you said was completely off topic

yes i agree.
what i'm saying is it's rare you'll ever use so much vram? i suppose gta 4 was a bad example.

I've had a fine gaming experience with a Radeon HD 5470 mobility 512mb graphics card. It plays all of your games like Portal 2, the Half Life series, every older title you can think of on medium - high details. It can cope well with quite a few new games too on low - medium.

I even managed to get a stuffty but playable FPS with GTA IV and have worked through a good portion of the game.

For a card that is well past its prime and on a laptop, I think it does really well. Shaderless Minecraft is flawless, and shaderless / low setting shaders in Blockland is very good as well.

The technology behind the card is dated and it isn't particularly fast so its dragging behind a good lot now in terms of usefulness. But still, not bad at all having used it in the last couple of years.

I don't understand why people buy the most expensive card they can find. They often say they do it to "future proof" but the technology behind graphics cards changes and you'll fall out of date in other ways over time. If you spend less money on a still decent card, you can upgrade it in the next two to three years when you'd probably want to anyway.

It's a miracle.

My GPU fixed itself overnight. I had uninstalled and reinstalled and restarted my laptop 148,000 times yesterday, with nothing working. Then I shut my laptop of for the night so I can sleep, then I turn it on this morning to see that it works. I literally did nothing I hadn't done already. I don't understand.
