It's supposedly quite bad (on the scariness-part) compared to the previous games, so don't judge the series based of that one game.

I'm deciding between battlefield 3 and dead space 3. I really don't want either since I'm not a huge dead space fan and I already have battlefield 3 for the Xbox and not to mention battlefield 4 is being announced soon.

I have to agree that the scare level dropped significantly, but the game overall is sooo much fun. The customization is super satisfying and killing the monsters with those weapons even moreso. Actually, the new DLC (Aftermath I think) is said to really bring back the creepy-as-forget factor.
