it's always interesting how the first models of any game console support backwards compatability, IE first PS3, Wii, Nintendo DS, but then they almost immediately scrap it.

The Wii and the DS didn't immediamately scrap backwards compatibility
Technically the DS never scrapped backwards compatibility.
