I jettison all my stores and try to restart the engine. With a little luck it roars back to life, but the overtemp lights flash if I push the throttle past 50%. Thank Christ, it looks like I can still fly this thing.

Just then, I hear command issuing the order to give up Gracemeria, and to rally west. I comply, knowing I don't stand a chance.

"Saber 1, egressing west for Khesed Island. Aircraft is severely damaged, engine is only partially operational."

I am still mad that I didn't get to kick ass. But then again...
My thought train is interrupted: I receive an order to go to Khesed Island.

I run up to my plane, hop in, close the nacell/whatever, and take off. I then travel full-speed to Khesed Island.

I call for some Engineers to fix up my plane.

I greet those who arrive alive at Khesed.

After we all land the flight gathers. other pilots had begun listening to a nearby television. They spot our flight walking and begin cheering. "Segodnya velikiy denʹ dlya Rodiny!" I yell, thrusting my helmet into the air. The cheering grows louder.

"Let's go, follow his orders!"

After we go to Khesed, we relax while our commanders think of a plan.

On-base roleplaying time. 118th veterans, rejoice! (also you can choose your custom plane now.)

Fine.

Waiting for other people who want to change their plane.

I quickly head to Khesed after my plane is fixed, and join the relaxing crowd.

I sat anxiously, watching as people hunched over the reports discuss their observations. Someone in the corner of the room sat attentively as they examined data from on-board flight monitors, as well as video footage of the invasion. Finally, an officer turned his head and gestured for me to come over.

"We've examined several reports concerning the Estovakian invasion of Gracemeria and before we draw any conclusions, we'd like to hear a few more details from your first hand account."

He paused for a moment to collect himself.

"Approximately an hour after the initial bombing raid, pilots claimed to have witnessed groups of very large explosions, all of which were centered in the same altitude band as most Emmerian fighters in the area. In that instant virtually half of the fighters stationed at Gracemeria were lost or damaged, with the majority of their respective pilots presumed dead. You were one such pilot caught in the explosions, correct?"

"Yes, sir."

"Tell me everything that happened in the moments before the event."

I give him the full story, taking special care to point out that I received no radar warnings before the explosions went off. After hearing what I have to say, he sighs. "Follow me." I'm led to a small video monitor off to the side. He plays a clip of some HUD footage recorded by another pilot. Despite being in black and white, I was able to make out a large, faint silhouette surrounded by dark specks.

"Early warning radar systems picked up an exceptionally large signature about 80 nautical miles east off Gracemeria's shoreline. We suspect that this aircraft is largely responsible for the incident, and we almost have a positive ID on what we're up against. However, until we clear up a few important details we can't say for sure. You can go, lieutenant. Get some rest. You've done reasonably well up until this point, but it's about to get much harder in the coming weeks."

I leave without saying a word.
