Author Topic: I need a computer for under 1400 (New List)  (Read 1344 times)

Can you clarify?  Is it broken?  Or just not good enough on its own?

Because two 560s is roughly around a single GTX 580.  A GTX 670 is better than a 580.

I threw together this part list for you.  It keeps most of the same stuff, i.e. keyboard, case, dvd drive, OS, etc. but instead of 32 GB of RAM, it's now only 8 (because seriously you don't even need more than 8).  Swapped another mobo in too because typically Intel ones are okay but they're not the best.  Same processor/cooler.  Also threw in a GTX670 (which you can overclock to reach GTX680 performance).

I would drop that cpu to just the 3570, because I doubt he's going to overclock and he won't need all of the power of the i7. Maybe a 670 with a better cooler, ssd for caching, higher end mobo, or just save the money.

That kind of cooler on the GPU is actually a bit better, that kind of design sucks air in from the case and pushes it out through the card's heatsink and out the rear opening.  I used to think it was a dumb design too but really it does make more sense.

I thought it was stock EVGA 670, actually whoops. I don't know why but for some reason I just don't care for EVGA. Most of their products are overpriced for what they are, it might be the mobos that put me off from all their products. Yeah that's a great card then, I would still cut back on the CPU and spread that money around on something else.

EDIT: Actually, nevermind. You're not looking for this.

Don't get 32gb. It's overkill and if you ever find that you actually need that much ram, ram is very easily upgradable. :P

32GB is more like a waste of money than an overkill. Really. 150+ for 32GB at a decent speed. forget that.

The gtx is in my computer right now and its perfect

gtx isn't a card, do you mean a 560? If so SLI is a huge waste of money.

560 and yes I have 1 card already

You're better off getting something better. Because you can get a really good PC under $500 without a GPU. So that's like an extra $900 for you to spend on a GPU. You can even get 2 or 3 of them. Triple SLI.

Why not just buy a gtx 690 instead of some sli

I already have 1 out of the two gtx 560's and I am not willing to pay 1k for a graphics card

What I'm trying to say is, you have to buy a GPU that is future-proof. A GPU that will be able to handle for years and years to come.

A GTX 560 isn't one of those GPUs. It's outdated already.

Heck, even a Quadro 600 can humiliate it. And as far as I know, a Quadro 600 is far older than the GTX 560 and cheaper.

Getting a second 560 is a huge waste, don't do it. Just wait til you need to upgrade the gpu
