There was the North Hollywood shootout in 1997 where the robbers had ak47's and sprayed constantly, but no officers died and only the two robbers died. The assault rifle ban was also active at the time and these two guys had ak47s, automatic ar15s.

the real debate should be what guns are necessary to hunt or OFFEND with.

but defense? clearly a mounted minigun 20 feet in front of my front door is better then XXX
i wouldnt mind having one. i have a lot less standards over gun type when it comes to defense. i would just as well use exploding rounds or a flame thrower.
