>just got windows 8
god help desktop users.
It's good for tablets, don't get me wrong, but for desktops it's HORRIBLE!
tom rant go:
yes it's HORRIBLE for desktops, but what microsoft should of done was either a desktop edition without the stupid modern UI.
but the thing is, the core of windows 8 actually runs NICE, i've used it for one month and the performance and boot times were outstanding, thing is though you have to deal with metro, which can be fixed by buying Start8, but it's loving ridiculous i have to download a start button or buy one.
people who switch will probably start regretting it by the first week or so if they don't have a touch screen monitor. i did and i felt the same way OP did, it was amazing, but i missed my compatibility with some applications and i wanted to go back by the one month mark.
i've tried windows 8 on a windows 8 device, a lenovo yoga, and the experience was MUCH better than the desktop version mostly because i could run the way microsoft intended it to be, a touchscreen friendly operating system.
if microsoft went with a desktop edition of some sort, i would of went with the upgrade for good. i'm not saying windows 8 is a totally BAD os from microsoft, it's fine at it's core, but not the design.
