It's more efficient and optimized than Windows 7, but the user interface is a mess. I tried my hardest to defend Windows 8, to love it. I can't. Switched back to Windows 7 because of the horse stuff interface.

Windows 8 looks like a tablet OS, imo.

It was designed for all-in-one and touch-screen PC's

doesnt mean it isnt functional for desktops

It might be a step in the right direction. If an os like windows can be more user friendly and look more user friendly but have things that an expert can use easily,  that might be the better os.

Never said it wasn't.

The only types of people I know that like Windows 8 are young people. Those who grew up with earlier version of windows who are young or older members in the pc community resent it because to them its a down grade. You guys might think giant boring colored boxes are cool and innovative, but to others trying to emulate touch screens is dumb.

god help desktop users.

It's good for tablets, don't get me wrong, but for desktops it's HORRIBLE!

tom rant go:

yes it's HORRIBLE for desktops, but what microsoft should of done was either a desktop edition without the stupid modern UI.

but the thing is, the core of windows 8 actually runs NICE, i've used it for one month and the performance and boot times were outstanding, thing is though you have to deal with metro, which can be fixed by buying Start8, but it's loving ridiculous i have to download a start button or buy one.

people who switch will probably start regretting it by the first week or so if they don't have a touch screen monitor. i did and i felt the same way OP did, it was amazing, but i missed my compatibility with some applications and i wanted to go back by the one month mark.

i've tried windows 8 on a windows 8 device, a lenovo yoga, and the experience was MUCH better than the desktop version mostly because i could run the way microsoft intended it to be, a touchscreen friendly operating system.

if microsoft went with a desktop edition of some sort, i would of went with the upgrade for good. i'm not saying windows 8 is a totally BAD os from microsoft, it's fine at it's core, but not the design.

windows 8 is pushing

most monitors are going to start being touchscreen anyway, they are just ahead

why the forget would you want to buy another start button when its already there in windows 8

Staying "up to date" is silly when you sacrifice much of your control.
From what Ive seen of it, windows 8 is as user friendly as apple products.
People need to realize that "newer" doesn't always mean better.  Usually when I tell people this, they retort with "ME NO LIKE CHANGE" like I'm a caveman or something.
