You see, Blockland mostly copies off of GMod, with Deathruns,JailBreaks, and Rping.
So Why cant we think of more Original things, i understand Falling platforms and things like that. but why not something New and fun.

Gmod did not invent any one of these.

Also can you quit comparing Blockland to every source game?

Blockland came first, but is less popular.  So it is treated as if it came later on and thus draws from those more popular sources.  Most people don't like being reminded of that.

Buhuhuht- ontopic: Racing, Vehicle Wars, Fortwars, GrappleKnife TDMs, Parkour Challenges, random shooting matches, sniper vs runner type TDMs, creep... whatever games.  The list goes on.

Right now I'm working on a laser dodging minigame.  You must run through a field of laser projectiles to harvest minerals, and bring them back to the spawn.  The more minerals collected, the harder it is.  (Cover disappears, more projectiles, bouncing projectiles...)  After a certain amount of minerals the players win.  However if that goal is not met within a certain time limit, the players lose.  The time limit changes depending on whether the last game was won or lost(won -2 minutes, lost +2 minutes).  I imagine eventually players will start using special tactics to get the job done.  Such as using cover, crouching in certain areas, or even using other players as shields.

But that's my idea, and it's probably a little bit too hard to pull off for a newer player.

I'd suggest going with a simple Deathmatch.  192x192 area, lava for a floor.  A bunch of columns rising out of the lava with debris on  top.  And some bridges connecting the columns.  Then just find a good weapon pack, place the more abusive weapons around the map and have players spawn with the smaller weapons and a grenade.  + make sure that there isn't a spawn on every column.  Should be relatively fun as long as you can't see more than a third of the map from any attainable position.

dogfights that are more 'dogfight' and less 'vehicle transport'

like, a bunch of players would spawn on smash bros style platforms and be able to freely position themselves within a large sphere-shaped zone before spawning a plane (after a set time period, to speed up the process) and begin to fight other players. items could spawn within a certain 'bubble' (and within this bubble is the play area; leaving will cause you to ring-out, smash bros style) and grabbing these items would mount one-use special weapons to your plane to better help you fight enemies

homing missiles, micro missiles, balloon bombs come to mind. super lasers would be pretty rad, too- flak cannons, maybe? hard to say.

for the sake of streamlining actually HITTING things, typical weapons- like, plane-mounted, standard-issue weapons- would all be raycasting and thus be easy to aim with but only be effective toward a certain distance before spreading out too far to really hit consistently. powerful weapons- you know, missiles- could default to being slow but typically homing and thus alleviate the issues raised by fighting at such extreme distances in such speedy planes

the winner would be (like any other deathmatch) whoever got the most kills within the short (4-minute?) time limit

_______

bounty hunter deathmatches that are largely spaced out, but with vague hints toward the locations of other players, but with 'civilians' to throw off their scent

at the beginning of every life, each player is given a random outfit based off of a group of pre-generated outfits but are not told who they're hunting, just what they look like and where they are

the map is divided into sectors, and you are- via centerprint or somesuch- always aware of where your bounty is, but again, not who it is; since there are other bots roaming around with the exact same random clothing algorithms there's a very likely chance that someone will look similar in passing to your target but not be exactly who you're hunting, and thus killing them will both blow your cover and invoke a penalty. but, since your clothing is randomized, you can 'blend in' to the crowd around you- not like, using a button, assassin's creed style, but like acting like a bot would; walking toward specific places, interacting with certain objects. blending gives you the element of surprise; you could end up blending into the same crowd your target is in, or even better tricking your target into getting into close range

for added depth, you could have a sort of 'intelligence' level; like, when you first get a bounty, you're given a picture of the target but some parts aren't filled in- they're just replaced with a silhouette or somesuch- but you know that he's wearing both brown pants and a white shirt. as time goes on, this picture becomes more and more detailed- what decal they're wearing, their hat, skin tone, etcetera- but at the cost of points allotted when you do actually take the bounty. of course, killing the entirely wrong person is worse, so there's a balance to be struck that the player must feel out

Thanks Bushi I just got a really good idea for a dogfight. Not what you suggested, but it will be good.

It takes waaaay too long make.  I tried it once and I got 1 room in before I got bored+.  If maps still existed, those tools could be used, and making an adventure map would be easy... and fun.  But they don't, so it's not.

I kind of want to load up Peekarica and make an adventure map in that.

So really if you wanted to make an adventure map, you'd want to make it in another game.  You just couldn't make it on a proper scale in Blockland, in a decent amount of time.

...

Though... I desperately want to be proved wrong on that count.

it doesn't have to be anything amazingly forethought or super detailed

forget, i don't even like detail. blockland implies detail via broad strokes, like team fortress and pixar

just something neat and interesting like Antichamber or an Escape the Room

actually, if you want to make something seem detailed without actually making it detailed you could just fill in voids with darkness; instead of having the entire map super bright for all to see, use lights to draw the attention of the player where you want him to go, then build up the places where he'll end up going. the in-betweens can be put to the side, cause they're not such a big deal

You've made like 5 threads in GD today.
Stop.

Bushy if it's any consolation, one of the like 6 projects I'm managing is a space station with some RP elements to it. The stations is massive, with 5 floors, each floor being about 68 bricks tall, 128x long an wide, expanding outward in the middle floor for all of the primary rooms, while offering private and public dorms on the 2nd and 4th floor.

It would mostly be an adventure/hang out server. There's something like 78 planned rooms., ranging from a gym, bar, medical bay, docking station for larger starships, etc.

But it's on hold and current work is geared towards a mini empires server, for various reasons of my own and my admins :L

I'm not complaining...he brought out the brilliance of Bushido.

Well done, bushi.

5 stuffty topics is not reconciled for one good post NOT made by the OP.
Bushy could've kept that information private and used it himself or made a better topic for it. Thus far, OPs topics have pissed off everyone

If you actually plan to make a mini empires server, tell me, I have some good advice.

dogfights that are more 'dogfight' and less 'vehicle transport'

like, a bunch of players would spawn on smash bros style platforms and be able to freely position themselves within a large, circular cube before spawning a plane (after a set time period, to speed up the process) and begin to fight other players. items could spawn

Oh wow lol

Blockland came first, but is less popular.
Gmod -     December 24, 2004 (original release)
Blockland - November 2004 (freeware)

Gmod - November 29, 2006[2] (Steam release)
Blockland February 24, 2007 (retail)

Anybody remember when BLM came out? I only started using it when it was already on 1.2 i think.
