also what is the pros/cons of making basecamp on your ship verses on the planet?

On the ship your space is very limited, so there isn't much you can do in the way of decoration, and once you have more than a few objects to make use of, you'll probably have to end up swapping them around from time to time. On the other hand, building a base in the ship means you carry it around with you, meaning you don't have to travel back to a homeworld all the time.
