Ok, hold on

What is shockhopper.
i don't think that's a spoiler but forget it:
[i've nicknamed it the richardchopper 9000 because of how frustating it is to fight.

it's the fourth and (so far) final boss in the game, and he's extremely hard even if you have endgame gear. i've seen it murder Kimon in one hit with rubium armor - and i legit have no clue how he managed to beat it.

What is shockhopper.

It's an the extremely hard fourth and final boss in the game.
I'm going to describe it and everything in small text in case you don't want it to be spoiled, but I'll also add strategies on how to beat it.

Alright, Shockhopper is the last boss in the game. He's a robot being driven by a penguin.
The arena he's built in is a square room. You drop in from the top-left corner. If you aren't healed yet, when you spawn on the snow area, go left and sleep in the tent.
For preparation, bring the Pulse Jump tech and the Energy Dash tech. They're very basic, but they're effective in this case.
Bring full Rubium armor. Weapons should include one fast-shooting weapon. I used one of the needle rifles that are dropped by the florans in the Mysterious Party mission. You should also have one weapon that does a large amount of damage per shot but not a lot of fire rate.
Keep in mind when selecting weapons that Shockhopper does not take status effects. He cannot be set on fire, poisoned, or anything else that causes damage-over-time.
Before entering the mission, go to a radiated jungle planet and fill up on a ton of plant fibers. Create as many bandages as possible with them. Jungle plants also drop Bio samples, which can be used with bandages to created medkits. Make as many of those as you can.
When starting the battle Shock will be in the middle of the room and you drop into the left. The first thing you want to do is pulse jump before landing. You do take falling damage from falling from that height.
There are several attacks that he throws at you, and in different phases. I don't quite remember what phase has what attacks.
His main and weakest attack is missiles. He launches 3 relatively slow missiles at you that increase in speed as they move. Shoot them down. In a certain phase, he begins to shoot 5 missiles instead of 3.
In his flamethrower attack, he will move at a speed slower than your character's and sweep up and down with fire. Stay in one corner of the map until he's about to reach you. When he does, pulse jump up and energy dash over him as fast as possible. When in the corner, it is possible to shoot him, but keep in mind that that drains energy, and you need that to dash over him.
After doing a certain amount of damage he will perform an "overload". In this attack, he runs to the center of the map and flies in the air, letting off electric sparks everywhere. During this attack, hide in the corner of the map, crouching, and shoot him. If you run out of energy, just wait. Even while in that corner, a spark may hit you.
He has one final infamous attack. The charge. This is an extremely dangerous attack, and if not evaded properly, can kill you instantly from full health. To start the attack, he moves to one end of the map without attacking you. Run to the opposite side from where he's going as fast as possible and hold ctrl and look over to him. As he begins moving, pulse jump and energy dash over him. If he reaches the other wall, he will have a moment of stun. If you were hit and survived, use that time to heal. If you were not hit, use that time to deal some damage to him.
During a certain phase, he charges twice. He moves to the left(?) side of the map and charges to the right, and then immediately turns and charges back in the other direction without stopping movement. This attack is difficult to evade. Move to the right side of the map, but stay a little ways away from the wall. When he charges the first time, pulse jump. Once you see him turn around, energy dash to the right. You will land behind him in the second charge and stay intact. Same strategies apply for the stun phase as before.

There you go. My masterful guide on how to defeat Shockhopper.

You know, come to think about it, Chucklefish really doesn't know how to make a good boss. Sure, a boss must be a challenge to the player, but not to the point where you want to staple your nutsack to the ceiling or so easy that it's stupid.

I mean, honestly, Going through the Erchius Horror and Shockhopper was like going through hell, but Dreadwing was nothing compared to those two, and the Floran Party can't really be considered a 'boss' because you can pretty much sneak through the entire thing.

To be honest, the Erchius Horror's difficulty was extremely overhyped for me. You just go between the lasers and pull the levers, then kill the flesh thing it spits out.

I would've probably beaten it if it hadn't started damaging me at random.

i can't beat erchius horror at all no matter how hard i try

mind you not because it's hellishly difficult but because the game freezes as soon as the battle starts and doesn't unfreeze

shockhopper does look like a pretty challenging boss, though.
it even took me and nav a few tries to beat dreadwing but that's mostly because we're both playing on 4x zoom and could barely even see the boss to begin with

as for the hunting party, it was just a matter of blasting through the entire level, then when we got to the boss, we just waited for it to get next to the door and blasted it with a rocket launcher right through the door
didn't even have to open it

the only problem with shockhopper is having to heal after literally every attack

mind you not because it's hellishly difficult but because the game freezes as soon as the battle starts and doesn't unfreeze

Get a better computer.
Shockhopper is a difficult boss but once you have a rightful setup of a rocket launcher, a sledgehammer, a UZI/needler/Gnome gun/fast firing weapon and a shield, combined with Pulse Jump and Energy Dash teches, you can actually defeat it without taking damage at all, and rather quickly.
Dreadwing is apex stuff with 4x zoom, otherwise it's justifiably the easiest boss.
Hunting party is fine all the way through, with or without using that glitch you mentioned that you seen me do anyway.

should we do a "post your character" thing

hint: you can use http://www.sbse.co/ to modify all of the colors of your character's body and attire, shade by shade
