Author Topic: Misophonia  (Read 7023 times)

So a few years ago I saw this video and realized that I have a legitimate mental condition

For years I've been completely irritated by plain old sounds that most people don't even notice, sometimes I've even been put into tears and have to leave the room

A lot of people I've told this about think I'm making it up or am exaggerating, but this isn't a joke in the slightest. It's a nervous disorder that can be worse than pain sometimes, and the worst part is that there are numerous triggers

1)   People chewing
2)   Persistent scratching
3)   Snoring
4)   People whistling out their nose when they sleep
5)   Heavy breathing
6)   ANYTHING that comes out of a baby
7)   Muffled voices or bass kicks  coming from a faraway room
8)   Jocks screaming “OOOOOOOOOH” because something cool happened on Xbox Live or American Football
9)   Asian languages
10)   High heels on the floor above me
11)   Dripping faucets
12)  Chalk/chalkboards
13)  The underdeveloped voices of children
14) "YOU'LL MAKE A FINE RUG, CAT!"  (I swear I'm not joking I kill bandits especially hard when they exclaim this)
15) Microphone feedback
16) Young girls screaming with delight
17) "Like" or "um" after every word
18) The terrifying shriek of your speakers when they're only plugged in half way
19) The sound Windows makes when it encounters an error :C :C :C

Personally number 6, 7, 9, 10, 11, and 14 don't bother me. But everything else... UUGHHh

so yeah that topic was too old so I'm making this to continue the convo, /discuss

Ouch.
Sorry to hear that.

when people stand right behind me and chew really loudly i feel like murdering a hamster

During the movies, the popcorn

OOOH THE POPCORN

I heard about this, I thought it was a fake condition made up by bored people.

I didn't think it was actually real. O:

when people stand right behind me and chew really loudly i feel like murdering a hamster
this. I hate it when people chew loud.

I go nuts when people chew loudly or they scrape their fork between their teeth when taking a bite.

1)   People chewing
4)   People whistling out their nose when they sleep
7)   Muffled voices or bass kicks  coming from a faraway room

those are the only ones on that list that annoy me

i can't think of any other examples to add now

I think everyone that says you're over dramatic is right. So many people self diagnose it's irritating.

bolded what applies to me

also anyone talking while i'm trying to listen to something/focus on something but i guess that's normal? it makes me really really angry though :/
this is part of the reason i want my computer in my bedroom, there's so much noise in the livingroom that i can't ignore it and it literally makes me want to cry, not exaggerating

Most of the people who diagnose themselves with Misophonia are just starfishs who are pissed off easily, there's no medical mystery behind it.

Legitimate Misophonia is uncontrollable and a terrifying experience.

people with romanian/russian accents make me want to shoot myself.

i cannot stand it

Those are the ones that really irritate me. God, I can't stand when people smack, too. My brother has a horrible habit of it and I continuously ask him to not chew like that and then he does is louder EUGH

I don't "diagnose myself" so that I have an excuse to be overdramatic and rude. In fact in public I've gotten ok at hiding it, I usually just clench my fists until I give myself marks or leave for " a bathroom break." It's not fake, it's a nervous disorder and it is excruciating.

Legitimate Misophonia is uncontrollable and a terrifying experience.
I actually only met one person IRL that's claimed to have it besides myself. Mine is only a minor case. I have some control over it, but I know for a fact I have this

No never mind, I have no control over it. That probably would come across wrong. It's nearly impossible to ignore when a trigger happens, but I can control myself enough so that people don't notice in public is what I mean

you don't have brain damage, you just have a low tolerance for other people and the things they do.
