This is the MK II Champion Class Fighter.

Also referred to as the "Self Delete spear", do to in the rescue of Commodore Yale. Second Lieutenant Erik Knight rammed his ship into an attacking Meridian Cruiser. Where he than proceeded to fire off ships torcreep's taking him down along with the enemy. Hence the name "Self Delete spear" since he took his own life while spearing the enemy with his own jet.

No one really knows Erik Knight's reasoning. But the basic speculated idea was that to make sure the shot would be dead on and destroy the cruiser.
