there's no way to know whether he meant half his two-year-old age or that, when he was two, his brother was half his current age
"When I was two years old, my brother was half my age."

I don't think you understand what I'm saying at all...

I'm not even talking about the idea that his brother is always half his age. I'm not talking about the method that ends in his brother being 50, I'm talking about the method that ends in his brother being 148.

Sorry your wording in the post was weird. And contributing to the fact that that theory is stupid anyway. Again, overcomplication.

"When I was two years old, my brother was half my age."
Like I said, that doesn't necessarily mean half his 2 year old age, it just means his brother was half whatever age he's talking about, when he was 2.

The 'when' only refers to his brother. His brother was only half the age being talked about, when the speaker was 2. The 'when I was 2' is not necessarily referring to 'my age' too.

I'll admit this is probably over-thinking it, but that doesn't mean it's any less right

what the forget
is that supposed to be earth?
no, it couldn't be, because if earth was in space we'd all be suffocating.

Well, despite both sides making very good points, I'm going to say that his brother is 99.

Because who the hell has siblings 48 years apart?

This is proof that humans are dumb

WHEN HE WAS 2 YEARS OLD

the exact day/birthday/whatever, his brother was ALSO HALF HIS AGE, meaning WHEN HE WAS 2, HIS BROTHER WAS 1. fast forward 98 years, he's 100 and his brother is 99. it isn't difficult. you can't really misunderstand the grammar because there is only one correct interpretation.

"when i was 2 years old" is past tense, and "my brother was" is also past tense. (HINT HINT LOOK AT THE WAS)

Thank you for putting it bluntly to the stubborn people who didn't understand it the first time I basically said this.

loving christ, it's 99 damn it. 2/2=1, 2-1=1, 100-1=99. or even 100-2=98 and 1+98=99.
not even going to say "do the math" because (evidently) not even that is safe.
Due to a grammitical error the awnser is indeed 148.

Getting rid of the word "now" would make complete sense.

You realize that I understand that right?
I never said 99 was wrong. I know that the best answer is 99. But depending on how you look at it, 148 could also be a legitimate answer, albeit an impractical one that requires you to overthink it a little.

Yes but what you don't seem to understand is that 'my age' is not necessarily affected by the 'was.' He could be talking about his current age or his 2 year old age. He was two years old, yes, his brother was a certain age back then, yes, but the age they're talking about isn't necessarily that 2 year old age.

I'm not going to argue this with you more. It's just some silly Facebook question that doesn't matter, if you want to get worked up over it then you can.
