What should fire do to bricks?

Kill - No resetting, more hardcore, good way to destroy stuff efficently with less lag

Author Topic: What would you want from a firemod?  (Read 1207 times)

I've been scripting for a while now, and to celebrate this fact i've decided to create a brand new firemod.

Again.

Some of you may remember the old one. It worked with slayer. This one will too.

However, there were certain things about the old one that sort of made it terrible:
- LAAAAG
- LAAAAG
- Terrible weapon models for some important tools
- Confusing prefs
- LAAAAG
- Stupid ammo system
- Glitchy weapons
- Broken objectives
- LAAAAG

The cause of many of these things was the fact that I at the time didn't know how a game of firemod would work. Would firefighters just put out fire? If so, how would this work? Would there be an arsenist team? If so, how does that make any sense? Also, what stops them from burning everything to a crisp?

I answered these questions and more to my best ability. This didn't work.

I missed out on key features, too. Water could catch fire. Instadeath occored randomly. Servers crashed for unknown reasons. Saving and Loading broke, and so did brickcount. Bad luck, Chris.

Eventually I gave up on it. I buried it and later created the renderman mod we all know and love. But I still remember it as how I got into making mods for blockland. And now I want to fix it.

But how?

So I ask you, how do you think the new firemod should be made? How should it work? What should the objective be?

I would say only being able to set one fire per 5/10 firefighters (if it was like a slayer or a gamemode) so there would be a team of like, 1-3 arsenists and like 5-15 firefighters. then you can control the fires so they dont get out of hand and lag the servers. idk.

this seems like a good idea.

cool man im sure if you do a basic server, let people play and then let people suggest their ideas then you could get some better ideas and develop the mod further.


You should add a pref for reachargable fire starting and a set limit. You could also have different tier items such as:
Firefighter - Bucket, extinguisher, hose
Arsonist - Matchsticks, lighter, (something better here). Also some Self Delete item that results in lots of fire would be fun too

I was thinking of like a wave mod. Where, when you swim, you get pushed with the waves in the direction they are flowing. It would be part of the environment, and like, they admin's (or whoever is allowed to access the environment settings) can change the height of the waves, the height of the base, and the direction they flow in.

I like this idea. In the original mod, the objective was to burn a certain number of bricks. This meant that the server was constantly counting and checking stuff. But if I introduce an objective brick - possibly with a much lower flamability (word?) than everything else, it can be much simpler.

Set a minimum limit of 500 bricks set on fire at once but have this changeable through RTB prefs.

Water gun that can distinguish a fire in 2 seconds if focused on one brick.

Fire burning sounds. I want to hear the roar of fire and the destruction of collapsing bricks (blockland brickbreak) on the inside.

Cubes, water bricks and baseplates can't be set on fire and I guess modterrain

Set specific events for fire using commands such as "on fire touch." I could set things like making bricks explode or simply causing the fire to spread 2x as bad.

Make bricks set on fire KILL BRICKS do not fake kill them. It won't be the same if the bricks respawned later on.

Fire sets damage to players.

Host can burn anything by default. Set an option to allow the super admin or regular admin to burn or not.


Objective is simple. Don't let the house you worked hard on burn to the ground.

I'm not really in the mood to turn this into a fireman RPG (there will be 40 fireman RPG servers). I just literally want to burn stuff. You should include an option to have or not have objectives because all I want to do is burn houses in freebuilds.

I want to be able to burn stuff while not in a minigame too.



You could edit this heat mod to instead kill you if you get too hot standing next to fire.
