Author Topic: Better looking water  (Read 2740 times)

Blockland is a god damn indie game using TORQUE ENGINE!

Current generation games use something much, MUCH higher than torque and the games usually aren't by indie developers.

You're asking for something impossible from a Torque Engine.
We have shaders and open GL. It shouldn't be too hard for badspot/kompressor to add water-like shaders to the water. Please don't talk like you know what you're talking about, thx.

REMOVES VEHICLES?!?!?!?!?!?! NUUUUUU
what are they removing next BUILDING?!

Things would look epic. But this kind of water would be missing terrain. Terrain might have to be redone to go with the water though. The old terrain looked ugly.

What we need is a custom water texture for each skybox that creates the illusion of mirroring the sky. Kind of like how Skylands skybox seems to mirror the sky from the horizon.

That... and wave controll in the environments setting..
that was possible and common with the old map system and can probably be done now

After the update waves were removed. I find that odd. Water loving downgraded.

Exactly. Proves that the water can be upgraded without engine changes.
It would be a cheap way to make water look good.

I'm pretty sure removing terrain also removed the possibility of waves. Since waves were just automatic terrain patterns.

If you want better water then you are better off just making it as a water brick.

Water in torque is essentially just one large repeated texture.

But vehicles are fun, removing them makes the game more boring
wait so basicly they make a game for race carts then there about to take out ALL vehicles wtf???

what the title is...

Since waves were just automatic terrain patterns.

What makes you think so?

Water in torque is essentially just one large repeated texture.

It's lit and shaded too, even without Blockland's changes.

I haven't been reading this thread, I forgot about it.

Anyways, for anyone who said we can't get better water with the current engine. You don't know what your talking about.
