What stuffty provider do you have that it costs per text message? Unlimited texts are like $5 a month on Verizon.

verizon dosnt even charge for txts if you have a real plan. txt and calls are free.

Yeah and they're loving expensive.
Had an HTC Wildfire with Virgin mobile, was paying like 30$ a month tops, got an iPhone, had to switch to Verizon, now paying like 130$.

You can text anyone for free in any country in the world with that gay imessage system (Unlimited texting doesn't let you text other countries for free). It also delivers those texts to any other apple device you have (macbook, ipad, whatever) and lets you reply from there too. Just saying.

Or you could use something like Skype, which does the same thing if you strip out all the mentions of Apple. Oh, and no, it still costs (from your carrier) unless you have a data plan or are on wifi, but it's still likely to be much cheaper than SMS.

I think it's more convenient to just be able to do it from within your message app than have to switch to Skype to message certain people. There's no denying that it's brilliant regardless of how much you hate Apple.

iMessage is a pretty great system and I still hate Apple.  iMessage also uses data (in kilobytes obviously, except for pictures/etc.) instead of the typical SMS system, so you could have no cell service but if you have a wifi connection you're good to go with iMessage.
