Anyways, on to the subject at hand. I recently got back into Roblox (okay not really, I had nothing else to play because I was bored of everything else), and have to say, it's not as bad as some people of this community can make it out to be. Yeah, there are lots of cons, but there are cons to lots of games. I'd say some don't even consider the pros. I felt I had to post this for the community, and see how you all hit off from it.
So, story time. I get on tonight, after I got a $10 Roblox Card from WalMart (they didn't have steam cards) and decided to get a month of Builders Club. It was one of those decisions you make in about a second. Roblox came before I played Blockland, and after I got into Blockland, I almost never played Roblox again (other than the occasional log on for 10 tickets). When I played, I had bought a lot of hats. Those eventually became limited hats. You know, the kind to trade. For robux. I had a hat I didn't really like that much so I decided to sell it 100 robux cheaper than the estimated value. After that, I looked in the games page. One particular game caught my eye. "Deadzone". I watched the short YouTube clip on the game page and saw it was very similar to DayZ. The computer I own can barely run DayZ, so I decided to give it a try. I get on, and spawn. Some general banter is going on through the chat, yadda yadda, such as: "Why'd you kill me!?" , "Dude come on" , and "Trading petrol for a ghillie suit". I spawn in an area with lots of broken down choppers, go inside one and get an AK. I heard footsteps and tried to get the gun loaded, to no avail. The man I heard shot me on sight (Yet he had a "Ranger" title, which I assume is good), and I just laugh. Seems to me these types of people are pathetic, killing people who just start out with nothing. The user who shot me, "soulusgod", tells me to spawn again and he'd give me some stuff. I did, and sure enough, he gives me a sniper rifle, flamethrower, and 14 helmets... Oh, and for some reason sunglasses. He then asked if he wanted to Skype. I decided to, because hey, I usually don't have time to type out important info in the heat of the moment, and assumed we'd all be going out, to shoot peeps. I do so, and instantly hear children who sound about 2-3 years younger than I (just estimating from the pitch of their voices). He has a pal, whose name I can't remember at the moment. They both start talking to me, seems nice enough. We started talking about rare items in the game, and he says "The only way you can win in Deadzone is if you glitch or hack". I loathe hackers. He then mentions he has hacked in Deadzone to get him those items. However, soulusgod (who we will call "soul" from this point forward), then mentions "Hm.. You seem to be a limited hat collector." I explain to him that I am just an old user who used to do that kinda stuff, but yeah. He then says, "I'll trade you for your fedora". What? I really didn't want to give up my stuff like that, it's more of a personal memento of how I was, cause I treasured it. I tell him that. "What about your Black Knight hat?" he inquires again. I ask if this is Roblox or TF2. They both kind laugh awkwardly, and they both keep sending trade requests. I kept trying to tell them that I really do not want to, but they insist. I finally make an excuse, saying "I need to reset my router" (which I did, my Internet usually needs to be reset constantly), and go offline. I then went offline on everything, but turned on my router to type this up. I still don't know what I'm going to do about that. I feel I should give them their items back, but if they hacked to get them, then that's not fair either.
Anyways, back to the point. After that one experience, lets sum up some points. When actually playing Deadzone, it felt very well planned. Killing was satisfying, and running around for survival is pretty fun. Yeah, it may be copying DayZ, but the idea transferred well.
However... The community... I think I'll have to side with some people here and say the community IS mostly terrible. Filled with kids that either think they're good or try too hard to be. They ARE children, but the game seems to be liscensed with being able to be played by everyone. Especially now that the abiltity to curse in-game has been added. The community should definitely improve. In 2009 when I played this, I thought it was the best thing ever. For some reason, I succumbed to the corruption of acting like this. Persisting meanly, etc. I look back and know I did wrong. I try to be better than what I was. However, most of the community seems to be unwilling to do so. The game can feel really fun... But it's when the people playing it start talking, is when it can go downhill.
People say Blockland is better than Roblox. Others say Roblox is better than Blockland. Some even say they're equal. I'd have to say I agree with the first. Because, yeah, some of the servers in Blockland can feel more derived. But so can Roblox. In fact, I don't know many Blockland servers that are copy and paste tycoons or the same obby places over and over again. Though, some of the Roblox servers seem to be more fleshed out in variety. This could be because they have a larger user base than us. I'd have to say we both can succumb to lack of variety (see: Bushido rants on TDMs)
The community... No contest. We win that one. Yeah, there are whiny kids on Blockland, but not near as much as on Roblox.
Development... Roblox has a large developer team. It's kind of unfair to compare us to them. We have... What, 2 developers? Roblox has a whole slew of mods, admins, and developers. All dedicated to improving the game. The game is not what's wrong with Roblox... Not trying to sound like a broken record here, but it's the community. We are developing faster and faster, but I don't think as fast as Roblox. However, we seem to be ahead, simple because I think we have better shaders, gameplay, etc than Roblox.
Conclusion... Roblox is an okay game. Maybe it could be improved if more mature players used it. Maybe then, that maturity would spread to other users. That's all I got.
TL;DR: Go back and read it, you lazy bum
