Author Topic: If We Were to ever Update to Torque3D, what do you think would happen?  (Read 5262 times)

follow these steps to change the engine.

>Be 21
>Win Lottery
>Buy Blockland from Badspot
>change engine

Found this, porting over the game shouldn't be too hard. For .CS files (which are what addons use) the structures/paths have to be updated and its fairly simple to do. Some.CS files for things like Players and Weapons etc have been moved.

Altiris, you don't know what you're talking about.

The entire engine has been heavily modified, it's not as simple as copy and pasting stuff over, the entire base of Blockland would most likely have to be re-written.

That's the equivalent of making a new game time-wise.

I do agree I don't know what I am talking about (ive never worked with game engines before but considering the post from a guy who barely works with torque I thought it shouldnt be too hard for Badspot to do it). I understand the engine has been heavily modified but you need to be more specific, things could have just been added into the game such as the physics (which uses bullet physics and is compatible with T3D), I doubt by heavily modified they mean they literally changed all of the roots of the engine to something they coded from scratch - I still think the roots or whatever are still TGE.

Edit: I dont even know anymore, maybe Im just saying this so my hopes keep up or something that T3D has a bigger gain than our current engine or something.

would the graphics change or anything? what would make a difference?

What if they made another blockland from scratch? (I realize how much time it would *take to make it)
Would it be worth it?

No because it would be outdated in 2 years anyway

torquescript in t3d isn't that much different than tge
you might have to change the dts files, but otherwise :/ not much change

the graphics you are probably talking about wouldn't really change a lot (neither should they) because the style of this game is really simple anyway
but we would be able to have all of our shaders and stuff at the same time as terrain (and I mean actual terrain, not that bs we had before)

Shaders in intel, with higher graphics

already addressed, that isn't the main problem

we don't know that

Why not remake all the actually useful features from Torque 3D into Blockland's engine

I've already asked this, but what if we could do something, to where if we ever update to Torque3D, since the engine is outdated, etc.
If we were to get the new engine, would the authentication work the same way?
For example, I want to use my key I used when I bought Blockland on its old torque engine, and Badspot, kompressor, etc decides to recode everything Even though they probably until we really need to.
I mean, if we ever need to update engines in the future, Couldn't Badspot just gather up a group of people, like 20-30 people that know alot of Torque3D, and recode it, so it would make it less time consuming, etc etc.
Think of this, even though its most likely never going to happen anytime soon.

poop would fly everywhere and everyone would be monkey grabbing crap off the floor and throwing it because their addons broke

Implying this is remotely possible, then I can't see a reason not to.
