Author Topic: Why did they remove the maps?  (Read 3804 times)

to those of you who say that maps were hideous
blockhead looks really out-of-place there, but that's probably just the DOF
by modern standards, they don't look too great in general
as far as landscape, that's entirely up to the person making the maps
probably best to ignore people saying maps were removed because they're ugly anyway.
(imo that terrains kinda ugly but honestly how is this even relevant to the subject)

i love how every time this topic comes up (every couple of days?) people post reasons like "they were ugly", "they were laggy", "shadows and shaders didn't work with them"/"they were removed so we can have s&s"

probably where a lot of the confusion about the subject comes from!!

I loved terrains and interiors, was fun to make but difficult to texture

I agree with the removal of them though, they didn't fit the game unless you were making a movie out of it or something like a screenshot (as above)

They removed it due to how buggy and laggy they were and to remove "limitations".
All we got from it so far are shades and shaders and please refrain from posting things like this, they can stir up stuffstorms.

what? they weren't laggy or buggy at all

They were glitchy as can be and the polygons(?) caused greater lag than bricks.
you have no clue what you are talking about

Cause they wern't really to do with blocks, sorta reality, so they made it more Blockland related

there were also loading glitches in the Kitchen for example

I actually feel bad for Badspot, because after all the years of trying to make them work better, he was eventually forced to remove them.

I don't see how it was laggy, because making an entire map out of bricks is ALOT laggier.

but no one built things out of bricks when they used maps. it was like a lazy already made deathmatch location.

im glad we only have slate. make you people actually build with legos for once in your lives.

>laggy
really? compare frame rates side by side with the slopes map and a slopes map built with bricks. the "polygons" didn't cause more lag than bricks.
>ugly
what a stuffty excuse. it's called upgrading and improving. fun fact: it's possible for the developers to make maps look better! did you know they can make it so maps can user higher resolution textures and look less spikey? never would've known!!!!

uh oh people are playing the game the way i don't want them to! if you want to build with bricks go ahead. it's not like they're coming into your server and spawning maps all over or some stuff. there were plenty of servers that ran on slate and plenty that used maps.

I love maps but they did not really have a use for me since I just used slate edits to build. Very rarely I go on maps either to screw around or just to explore.

i love how the original question of OP has now turned into a topic on whether or not maps should have been removed.

we know why they were removed. we know they're not going to be reimplemented in the same way for a while. leave it at that already goddamn.

Maps were a best part of blockland.

you're playing the wrong game then
