What equipment do you recommend on getting to begin drawing? I'm tired of looking for what I want as only I know what I want so I'd like to begin drawing.

Get a tablet (I have intuos3) if you can afford it and a program you're familiar with
I use paint tool sai which is much easier to familiarize with and way cheaper than photoshop ($55 compared to $500+)

If you just want to use a mouse, you should get a mouse that best fits your hand and budget. I have a Razer but price has nothing to do with performance, just get something that suits you best. I also recommend turning down mouse sensitivity for now

And don't use a mousepad. those are evil

I have a mouse but is using an optical pen more comfortable?

It's just preference and varies from person to person
