I wasn't doubting you, I was just curious what a $1000+ furry commission would look like.

it depends on the artist

Alright, i have confirmation from another commissioner and some of my companions that the prices are indeed alright. Especially since i allow the price to go lower than displayed by a few dollars if i find fit.

Welp, here goes nothing. Literally nothing. I don't expect anyone to commission me.

Consider the number of hours that goes into some top quality art pieces; divide the price by that number of hours.
The furry community is so saturated with artists that in order for prices to be competitive, many artists are charging what isn't even minimum wage, let alone a livable wage.
Few people are actually making a living off of commissions.

They do exist.
Spending that much is loving stupid.
Also 'YCH' (your character here) auctions.
For those who don't know them, artist makes rough sketch, artist posts rough sketch, people bid to get their character in the picture. I think it's mostly used in research pics.
To me it's just another way for artists to get more money from the same amount of work, especially for the artists who have stopped doing normal commissions and just do auctions instead.
I am interested is knowing where you pulled that quote from, though.

To be blunt...
The art isn't good enough for that price, you should practice more. Remember, you're competing against a ton of people. I just looked at your profile and saw this in your favorites: better art for lower price

Also you should use examples that are actually representative of the art: don't use a a pic drawn on lined paper for the sketch, and the char sheet example just looks like another sketch

Gonna add onto what he said, also to be blunt

When you're doing commissions, you also need to bear in mind that you're only doing the drawing. Meaning that you're not doing much, if any, brainstorming or planning. Meaning that you have next to no idea about what your buyers will want. He could be asking for a gryphon, sure, but he could also ask for a wolf, dinosaur, human, robot, airplane, spaceship, coffee table, anything.

You have to be ready to draw anything known and unknown to mankind, so studying basically everything about drawing forms and figures is a must, from colour theory to how the shine on a pool ball differs to that of a metal plate to anatomy of feral horses. To be completely honest all I've seen you draw is gryphons and perhaps a wolf every now and then.

Of course, you can always impose limitations (many artists that I know who do commissions will refuse to draw buildings or robots simply because they don't feel up to par), but then again

and they might look for others who have a more broad range of abilities.

Just my two cents.

The fact that i have gotten better but have no work to show as an example because none of it is useable or finished is annoying. The prices are not final as of right now. But they're experimental. I just need some commissions to get some work in and so on.

I can't give good examples unless someone finally decides to purchase something.

I have a job, i work a large amount of my time. I get payed below minimum wage. It's not a good way to make money let alone keep up with payments that i have to make.

These commissions will serve as another income for me. I'm just trying to get by.

I can draw pretty much anything thrown at me. It takes a little longer, but i can do it.

And as i've said, i do not have any new work to use as an example but if you ask TD he will agree that i have been getting better.

As i also said, i need the money to get by.

What I've seen a lot of startup artists doing is take one free request per art type offered, this way they have something good to show for that type that's not drawn for themself

Good idea. Will fix that.

Also
I get payed below minimum wage.
Unless your working for a friend or family member or something instead of a real employer, you should talk to the proper people about that.

It's a weird thing, but it's legal.

I work for an amusement park who does not pay employees under 18 minimum wage. It's stupid, but it's a job.

Also, here.

This means you guys have the first picks.

I laughed so hard at this.

"Free commissions"

You're really starting to piss me off. Seriously.

I need to get something to start me off, i need the money to pay for a lot of stuff. Phone bills, electric bills, and other bills. Because my mother is a psycho and i need to pay her for everything because being 16 and having a job that's below minimum wage clearly makes me able to pay for her loving taxes and bills.

The least i can do is start off these loving commissions with a few examples so SOMEONE WILL EVENTUALLY BUY SOMETHING.

Just stop loving trying to get me to change the prices or some stuff. It's not going to work.

And i'm sorry i used the term FREE COMMISSIONS. Let me just go loving change that so you don't have to mention it again.

I've worked insane hours for the past week, and i'm not in the mood to be bothered by people.

Jeez okay sorry mate I'll stop
