Whenever I mention something like this that my parents might find weird, I always tell them in a way like "there are some weird people" or stuff like that. When I told my mom that furries existed, she was like "...um, okay, and?"

I went the "nope nevermind" route.
When I told my mom about (this is not the real name) DLdrug, which is online drugs that I wanted to try and see if they worked, I said, "There are some idiots on the internet who really believe sound waves can make you high. But some people really think that..."
I did the same when I told mom about furries. "There are some weirdos on the internet who like drawing animals. They're weird. I like some of the art though."
The method:
Say that the party you're talking about is automatically creepy or stupid.
