the light could not hit the inside of the arm like that because it's portruding outwards, it'd be hitting the elbow and top of the arm

and the snout still couldnt have light hitting both the top and bottom of it

the light is coming from in front of him. it's not actually coming from directly to his left like it would appear in my picture. but I can't really make it look like it should. but that's why it's on the inside of his arm. and there is something above him, like the top of an entrance to a cave, that is blocking some of the light

and, the bottom of his arm is not pointing straight up. stand up, and hold the back of your neck with your left arm. is your elbow pointing straight up? that's why the elbow has a shadow

if its pointing up you have a freakishly tiny forearm

we have to assume that since the artist did not draw an object above his head to block the light, that one is not there

and if it WAS there, and the light was coming from directly in front of him, it wouldn't cast a shadow on his face, and the elbow shadow still wouldn't make sense
