Author Topic: NSA PRISM Data Mining Program - What is your opinion?  (Read 15225 times)

Are they actually allowed to do that? Is it even relevant to what they are actually supposed to be doing?
Black mail is pretty common, your so called politicians aren't as honest as you think they are.

Are they actually allowed to do that? Is it even relevant to what they are actually supposed to be doing?
You think the government cares about what it can and can't do?

Well he's making an exaggerated point about how this can easily lead to abuse. What happens if the president and media start sucking each other's richards like in 2001 after another 'crCIA' and the state decides we need more 'security'. You know, the US is a freaky country. The news media essentially decides how to define what a patriot is and what it is not. With such power the population can easily be lead into things such as Iraq because nobody wasn't to a 'traitor' (read: not a patriot -- a term the media has defined and probably got the orders to through the military industrial complex). After that anything can happen, searched something off hand a few years ago that some word filters didn't like? You're now on a watch list. This can go much further and has been empirically shown to do so.

What do you have to hide?
I don't have anything to hide. Electronic surveillance serves a purpose because you can gain important information more easily, less intrusively, and more cheaply than other methods. Bathroom surveillance would not serve a purpose because any illegal activities going on in a person's private restroom could be much more easily and cheaply detected.

For example: If I was building a bomb in my bathroom, I would first have to purchase the materials. I may also have a co-conspirator. Both materials and communications can be monitored much more easily than my bathroom.

Dude, make it easier for them then! You might, y'know, actually build a bomb in the bathroom. Wire a camera to your computer and to the NSA. C'mon motherforgeter, you ain't got nothin' to hide!

I don't have anything to hide.
Yes you do. If you don't, then you won't mind me posting everything about your life in the next post including pictures of your growth as a child. Do you want future employers to know the handicapped bullstuff you post on these forums daily or that strange research that you search for? I mean, it's not like the NSA is selling their collection data to other firms. Oh wait, they are! What about that disease you thought you had when you overreacted? What about googling about the opposing political party? That'd be kind of scary to do in a very oppressive environment.

This also isn't just for the ephemeral and immediate. It's also about what it can lead to. Don't be naive.

I don't think it will lead to crazy oppression. Maybe I am naive, maybe you guys are cynical.

This isn't going to be a problem for the average person, but it isn't only going to be bad for scary terrorists and criminals. Anyone who protests the government is probably on a list being watched. I'm sure they're trying to put away people who are vocal against the government any way they can. It's not like the government always acts in the best interest of the people any way. I'm not saying the government is evil, it's just selfish. It's out for itself first,

I'm not surprised. I knew we were heading towards that monitored 24/7 future.

Or they can use the fact that the leader of the political opposition likes special interest research?

For your age you're pretty dumb lol.
You should probably re-read my post, because you clearly didn't understand it.

Where did you post in this thread exactly?

I'm not surprised. I knew we were heading towards that monitored 24/7 future.

Not like past leaders wouldn't of done this if they could of. It's just a lot easier now then it's ever been before

" People willing to trade their freedom for temporary security deserve neither and will lose both"
-Benjamin Franklin

I quoted this earlier in the topic, and yes, richard Cheney said earlier today that the program was for our "Saftey".

He also called Edward Snowden a Traitor.

Has no-loving-body read the fourth amendment?

He is a traitor...

He is a traitor...
If this program is really for the safety of Americans and only affects "terrorists" then why do any politicians care about people knowing about it? Surely if that was their intention they have nothing to hide and wouldn't have hid it in the first place.

And the whole concept of a "War on Terror" is just a blank check to detain anyone who doesn't align with the administration's agenda. Question the government's motives? You must be an unamerican Terrorist/Traitor! just look at why the Patriot act has it's name. If you didn't support something called the Patriot act, then you must be a god dammed commie!
