Uh, no. The tiers are based on how well the character performs in terms of aerial attacks, ground attacks, special attacks, recovery, and speed. I'm not too sure what exactly they look for in tiering, but I know for a fact it's not how many picked a character X and won.

No, both of you are right. Characters are compared to each other in terms of tournament rankings and who usually wins against who. This is called a matchup. Matchups and the actual quality of attacks are the main influences. I think an opinion based on facts and patterns is much more credible than just anyone's opinion, so I find that tiers are reasonable. I don't agree 100% with them and I'm not obsessed, but I generally go by them.

While they are credible to some extent, you shouldn't avoid playing characters that are in the F tier just because a list says so. You should experiment with all the characters that you can and see which one you can fight with the best. Different play styles call for different characters.

I believe Tiers may be significant but I don't pay attention to them.

Ike all the way forget y'all

I like Captain Falcon and Luigi, no matter what you guys say.

Exactly the mentality you should have when choosing characters.

I mostly play Kirby because he can practically fly, but I'm also partial to Toon Link.

And Mr. Game & Watch.

i never got why people like him so much

his physics feel super clunky to me and i just could never play him right

I like more agile characters, like Lucas, Ness, Jigglypuff, Pikachu, and Toon Link to name a few.

my 6 year old nephew always played as captain falcon when we play ssbb together, and he would always say "falcon punch" out loud while he did it in game, and it sounded like he said "loving punch" and i got mad at him the first time because i didn't know what he was trying to say and yeah

He's pretty agile though, and he has OP attacks and a 1-hit KO attack if you're lucky. I guess you can have your own opinion about the characters but he's definitely my favorite.
