Sakurai doesn't really want Smash to be a fighting game though but I think taking that route a bit is for the better of the game.

Apparently he even mentioned its "his on unique genre" of fighting games known as "Brawlers" now.
You can see Sony's ridiculed attempt, PlayStation all stars. Didn't go so well imo.
