To all you people out there eating pre-processed, throw-it-in-the-microwave food; don't. Let me give you a real world example (or two).
First, one I experienced myself. I normally eat quite healthfully, and have very few health issues. One day, I rode my bike to my aunt's house to spend the night. Got there just fine, hardly broke a sweat. However, after having two to three pre-processed meals at her house, upon my return ride home the next day, I felt pretty terrible.
I won't argue that all pre-processed meals aren't bad for you in many different ways, but this is just stupid.
No loving wonder you felt terrible.
You had three meals. Why?
I can't go and eat 3 all-natural meals and feel perfectly fine. It's your own fault for getting sick in this instance.
You over-consumed. It doesn't matter how fit you are, people are not supposed to do that. There's a reason you start to feel bad, because your body tells you that you have eaten too much.
And yeah, if the meals are processed, they probably don't have the healthiest characteristics to them.
They probably have high sugar, salt and fat contents. That's not a concern normally, assuming you don't eat a lot of them, or you don't eat a lot of other things during the day.
If you eat 3 of them, you've probably taken something like 2.5-3 times your Daily Recommended Allowance of Sugar, Salt and Fat. Probably protein too.
Second case. There's a documentary about this big, diseased dude who ate fast food all the time and had to take tons of medications, and he weighed over 300lbs. You know what he did? Instead of doing the normal tv ad diet, he "fasted" for a month, and consumed nothing but juiced fruits and veggies. Completely raw, completely natural. And you know what? In a month, he had lost a ton of weight, and his medication requirements became lighter as well.
No wonder he was sick, if he just ate fast-food constantly. That's like being surprised that someone who only eats protein shakes happens to be sick.
You can not live solely on 1 type of food, particularly if you are eating it in a massive quantity each day.
We know that Fast-Food is high in sugar, salt and fat.
McDonald's salad has more salt in it than their BigMacs.
If you are eating these regularly, then you're going to feel very sick all the time. And it's no surprise this person weighed 300lbs.
And his medication is almost definitely a result of his obesity. I wouldn't be surprised if he was Diabetic and had high blood pressure, and was prone to coronory diseases.
And if he is like this and still living on fast-food, then of course he's going to need lots of medicine.
Medicine isn't a wonder cure. It won't let you live however you like so long as you're on it. It certainly helps. But it needs a fighting chance. That is why almost all diseases and medicines require a life-style change in order to make them work their best.
The point about the "fasting" is ridiculous.
Just of note, that fasting is probably one of the most dangerous things you can do when trying to lose weight.
Starving yourself is not a good idea. Just because you have fat-reserves does not mean you can live entirely off of those.
Fat will be converted into sugars, which are used for energy. Perfectly fine.
They aren't converted into all the necessary proteins and amino-acids that your body requires to function.
If you just fast, you're often likely to make yourself very sick. You can end up with low-blood sugar, to the extent that you're prone to fainting and even going comatose.
And for a person already on medicine for Obesity, it is certainly not good for you.
And it's also a fair point to say that just living on fruit and vegetables isn't the only way to get fit.
This man could very easily have gotten fit by scrapping all fast-food and living on a balanced and fresh diet of anything.
That could be meals that include meat, fish, fats and sugars. There's a reason that dieticians go on about Dietary Pyramids. All things, Protein, Fat, Sugar, Carbohydrates, Fruit/Vegetable, are greatly important to the body. In varying amounts yes, but still important. Entirely scrapping them is not the best idea in the world.
It's stupid diets like these, where people entirely throw out Carbohydrates or Meat or Sugar that paint a really bad image about how a healthy diet should be.
Anyone can lose weight and become healthy through regular exercise and a balanced diet.
There is no supreme dieting process.
Finally, let's comment on your note about him requiring less medicine.
Well, of course he would. He no longer weighs 300lbs and lives on a diet of fast-food meals.
He's not going to need massive amounts of mediciation to keep control of diseases like Diabetes, or to maintain his weight through steroids.
This story you've thrown up is just painting the obvious. Everyone should know this stuff.
But you shouldn't jump to the conclusion that all fast-food meals or processed foods are pure evil and will make you sick, nor that you have to live on fruit and vegetables only.
Most foods are good in moderation. And being healthy only requires a good spirit towards having a balanced diet and good exercise.
People who come up with bullstuff "get-fit-quick" schemes and want stupid tricks to being healthy are just pathetic and lazy.
Do it properly and there's nothing wrong with it. Don't go giving your money to some dietician talking out of their arse just to charge you a fortune while you painfully starve yourself until you're skinny enough to fit into your jeans.
