Author Topic: Shadows need to be blurred  (Read 1091 times)

Blurred just enough so they don't look all pixely, this can be useful in some cases.

yeah, but not ALL cases.

I'm not a fan of soft shadows
I like those shadows from Doom 3 (And other Id Tech 4 games) and F.E.A.R. 1

Shadows need anti-aliasing, and when the shadow is casted on an object very close it is sharp and when casted on an object far away it gets progressively blurred

That would be awesome

That's cool

But I want a sharp shadows option.
So we got these tickboxes

[]NORMAL
[]SHARP
[]SOFT
[]SHARP THEN SOFT

this is pretty cool

this is pretty cool
Only if they can be set server-sided

y
Because I want people on my server to see shadows the same way I do

didn't compressor take screenshots of fancy blurred shaders/shadows in the dev thread but never implemented?
it's perdy :(

That seems a bit selfish

Not really, if you use shadows for i.e. cinematic effects (aka, look cool) then you will want that everyone sees them the way that you do

That seems a bit selfish
actually, most atmospheric scenes where shadows and lighting take effect, you can just turn them off and either coast through it because it's now easy, or just lose the effect.

this is pretty cool
OH AND DON'T FORGET!
OPTIMIZATION !

exactly, you can just stay on medium/low and blurring it enough would make it look kinda HD
