Author Topic: Why we should have the old Blockland back.  (Read 10814 times)

But I don't want to have to build it. Especially when I have no motivation to build.
Why on Earth did you buy a game about building if you don't like building?...  How did you even find this game? lol

in my eyes, badspot got rid of maps that 99% of the community loved, to add in shaders that 1% of the community can run.
That's a pretty ridiculous assumption.. The only reason anyone would believe that 99% of the community is unhappy is because the minority that is totally unhappy whines about it enough to make up for the silence of the majority who is happy.

There were several votes about this very subject and in every single thread (and there were tons) with a vote, the majority was always in favor of removing maps.  And that's saying something considering the people who were unhappy about it are the ones who like to make/cast their votes on the subject.

I do not like building very much.  How would someone know if they will not like building?  I enjoyed building at first, but later on it just turned into tedious work.  This game is more than worth buying just for the combat and the add-ons alone.  I still find this game to be the best purchase I have ever made, and I rarely build.

EDIT:  Why has no one posed this yet: http://forum.blockland.us/index.php?topic=207597.0

For now we won't have any maps besides the ones that MARBLE MAN made.
Maybe sometime in the future maps will be default again.

I realize there's more value than just building, but the game is clearly advertised as the game where you build stuff...  If you aren't a fan of building things then idk how you'd even consider investing in a game with that slogan :P

Ill say this again:

Maps in Blockland only served as an excuse for players to not have to build. Why build a nice city when you could load a pre-made one that doesn't use bricks?
Before shaders, almost all servers relied on maps to accomplish any terrain or surrounding. Now without them, people are forced to actually build unique and interesting things to do what that want, and thats a good thing.

I was sick to death of all the minimalist dogfights and map challenges that anyone could churn out with no effort.
The only downside to this is the old users who still complain about shaders and refuse to get off their lazy asses and actually build something.
"Remember the time where we could be lazy?? Yeah! I want that back!"

Build Something Nice for Once Dammit

I wish the brick limit was higher, then cities could be bigger, just like maps were.

i don't think you guys get it

they were halting the game's progress. it wasn't a tradeoff, it was eliminating non-functioning features

(see my above post.)
What I'm saying is that he should have waited until he had something else to replace them with to prove that with I+T you could not have other good stuff.

Badspot said a while ago that about 33% of users can't use shaders AT ALL (and all are stuffty graphics cards) but most people can't use them practically either.

Ill say this again:

Maps in Blockland only served as an excuse for players to not have to build. Wrong. Some things were far too large to function even nominally well as builds, or had too many unusual angles, or one way or the other just wouldn't work. Why build a nice city when you could load a pre-made one that doesn't use bricks?Again, too large and laggy bricks and odd angles.
Before shaders, almost all servers relied on maps to accomplish any terrain or surrounding. That's because it worked and most servers were more focused on high-FPS battles than slow-ass fancy buildsNow without them, people are forced to actually build unique and interesting things to do what that want, and thats a good thing.except it slows down dev time for good servers by months and months.

I was sick to death of all the minimalist dogfights and map challenges that anyone could churn out with no effort. It's true that there were some overly minimalist maps. If it was fun it shouldn't matter (i.e. dogfights) but challenge maps were usually garbage and now it's no better because they're trying to spend as little time as possible on the build and so they make it even stufftier than a map one would be.
The only downside to this is the old users who still complain about shaders and refuse to get off their lazy asses and actually build something. I cannot build a huge beach pit with bricks, even modter doesn't have the angles I need.

Yes you can build a beach pit with bricks, you just probably aren't doing it right.
Odd angles aren't a problem; you aren't limited to square lots. Sylvanor's replica of the Flatiron Building is at an odd angle, and it still works.

The angles don't have to be smooth; you're using bricks.

I wish the brick limit was higher, then cities could be bigger, just like maps were.

Yeah, it would be nice to have a high brickcount, but then again, 256,000 is a lot of bricks.

is that the bricklimit???

i swear me and Ravencroft were in a server and we made like 2 million bricks... :/

After that it stops rendering them all I am pretty sure. That's what it does for me anyways.

people aren't forced to build unique things. there isn't some blockland revolution of amazing building potential after the update. if you look around, the lazy are still lazy. they load builds like collab city or any default build and play on those. it's no different than loading a map somebody else made. people AREN'T forced to be unique. people AREN'T forced to build. the lazy can remain lazy, and that's what they are doing.

You shouldn't be forced to not be lazy. People can play the game how they want, I don't see what's wrong about people just loading a map to have simple fun on. If you're so against lazy things, I'm sure you can go out and make something unique and original and have a good time on it.

It's because there's more to it than building. Many videos about blockland don't feature building, they feature doing things in the builds. Some people might just want to play the game without building, and a lot of people do. There's nothing wrong with just joining other servers and playing TDMs and zombie minigames.
It is fine to have an opinion and think that the older versions are better.  However, it is not fine to whine about how the new versions suck, petition to get the old versions back, ect.

There's already been 203920 of these stupid-ass threads and all they do is spam up General Discussion.  We get it, you're unhappy with the new version... Suck it up, get used to the new version, and stop making threads about it.  Maps are not coming back, it would be impossible to bring maps back.  They were removed to make progress and that's that, like it or not.
There was once a place where people could talk about terrains vs shadows, and that was in terrains vs shadows. People will continue to post these threads, there's no megatopic left to post in.
@Bold, Unless you're talking about the old maps, that's a blatant lie. Maps as a features can always be re-added into the game. It's not "impossible" to add them back in.

See shaders are here too stay and maps aren't coming back.
This topic is one of thousands, none will achieve anything.
But seeing some of these posts...
Terrain-Dependant servers are not all bad. Heed's war thing with the slopes was awesome.
Some people are lazy, yes.
Some people just like skiing.
P.S. Heed's was awesome because it had an isolated feeling war. We can't have those anymore.
His last winter war that I saw was great, but you cant have big servers like that,
the servers that make it a treck to walk/drive too the enemy base.
Thats what I miss, not being lazy.
I miss the fact that I can have a big server without dropping a couple hundred thousand bricks and several months time

I love your avatar

On topic: I thought it was pretty funny how people were saying "I'm gonna make slate edits avfter V21!", then environment controls came out.

So what was this about MARBLE MAN?
