can you stop being an idiot

making a weapon fire 1300 miles is outrageous and broken

stop. it's unbalanced and makes no logical sense

Did you read anything of what I said on the last few pages?  It's modern tech, but if time were moving, we wouldn't have the capability to make it, nor the interest to because newer things would be coming out.  This is essentially the cutting edge we can muster as our tech improvements is frozen.

Cruise missiles go really far, because they have fins and wings to provide lift.  Who says we can't do that on a railgun shell once it gets to the upper atmosphere.  If we want to fire around mid-range, it has to deal with more air resistance, and therefore is less effective.  At short range it becomes effective again.  Plus, this thing fires at about Mach 7 with a 110kg shell, that's CRAZY momentum.

Works sorta on this kind of curve.

SWAT MACH 9 IS 3,000 M/S

SWAT MACH 9 IS 3,000 M/S
Derp.  Mach 7 den.  I overestimated.  Current railguns fire at Mach 6 so...

The point of the Longbow is to be able to effectively fire artillery from miles behind the frontline while still maintaining its safety from enemy fire.  Of course it will still be under heavy anti air and anti land protection and should the enemy push far enough toward the gun it will be removed (obviously it's not working anyways if the enemy is able to get that far anyway lol).

Remember that I intended it for that express purpose only, not bombarding someone from across the continent.

West Erinaum sets up a stack of tin cans and gives Abdullahi the coordinates.  Test shot No. 1 lol.

WHOA HOLY stuff WE'RE SAFE

lets party not rebuild

lets party not rebuild
because that would make sense and we can't have that

I'm using host power on this.

Swat, I understand what you're saying, but momentum has little to do with speed if memory serves.  The mass just means that it accelerates more slowly.  I'd say 500 miles would be pushing the envelope.  The only person who is siding with you on this is blazer who is the direct beneficiary.  Also your graph axes have no labels.

Wikipedia has some nice equations on railguns.  If you can give us the specs for the longbow (OOC for the sake of your own security) ahead of time and not edit the post you put them in so we know there's no BS going on, and plug those numbers into Wikipedia's formulas, factor in fins and all that other stuff and still tell me with total honesty that the longbow can have a range of that sort, then it's real and there will be no further challenges.

Frankly, I doubt that the Longbow is reasonable.  Give me the math, and I'll believe you.  Until then, the Longbow is limited to known railgun range (250 miles).

I feel that this is an equitable solution given that the current numbers don't seem to correlate to knows railgun performance and we are limited in our technology to the present plus a couple years.  This way, I get proof and Swat gets to show us all how smart he is.

have you read any of my posts

Can we settle for 300 for now?  I mean no current railgun bullet has fins and wings for lift, but modern artillery does, so saying 250 maximum is pretty short, even for the first shells.

Plethora, I doubt anyone on this forum can do the math involved.
