Author Topic: Does anyone actually use the Home Keys?  (Read 3118 times)

I type faster and better when I'm not using the method compared to when I am.

without home keys I can get like 70+ wpm.

I use the homekeys pretty much any time I type. It's the way I make less mistakes and type most quickly. There isn't much to dislike about them once you know how to use them.

Ultimately we need to stop using the QWERTY keyboard format, though. It's literally designed to be slow.

I used to but now I don't.
I type the same rate as when I did though, I just find not using the home keys more comfortable.

I don't use the home keys
I use the Home and End key excessively though.

OP is talking about home row by the way.

The computer teachers always say I have to use it but I've been the fastest typer in the class since fourth grade so idk what's up with them

i don't, and i can type pretty fast
at least, reasonably fast

The home keys are probably faster if you take the type to learn and tune yourself to them but I'm to lazy to so I'll just type normally. :D

i don't use home keys, i just let my hands flail all over the key board which results in tons of misspells

I play piano, so my hands are used to not stay in place. But if I ever use home row, my WPM is <20. If I don't my WPM is >45. So yeah, home row sucks massive richard and cramps up my hands really fast for some reason. Computer science in Middle School sucked, and my teacher ALWAYS checked to see if we where using home row. Most days, we had to put plastic covers over our keyboards for us to get used to not looking at the keys. With that piece of plastic on and using home row, my WPM was below 15. Somehow I got a B in that class.

TL;DR: Home row sucks

I never use home row.
Even if I ever made a spelling mistake, autocorrect would fix it for me.

I've never heard the word home keys before just now, but from what I can gather its the middle most row of keys. I type slow any way and I'm not quite sure what you mean by not using them the A W E F and J I P ' keys are naturally where my fingers go when their not typing.

Dynamic finger placement superior
Home row inferior

I don't use home keys, and I free-handedly type over 125 WPM with 99% accuracy, so it's a waste of time imo.

i think it's called home row lol
