Author Topic: Does anyone actually use the Home Keys?  (Read 3087 times)

I just type naturally.
I can type extremely fast without even having to think about it.
And if I make a mistake, I see it immediately and fix it right away.
Unless I'm playing a game, that is, then it doesn't matter, since I can use the magic "Star" character (*).

GOD DAMMIT

I sometimes use Pg Up/Pg Dn and Del.

Rest are garbage.

Ultimately we need to stop using the QWERTY keyboard format, though. It's literally designed to be slow.
I have to disagree, its actually pretty fast, I type faster with Qwerty instead of ABC, but really what matters is what you are used to.

I never used home row, even though I've always been told to.

I have my left hand on Left Shift Q W E and Space, and right pretty much where ever, depending on what I am typing.

I am curious how many words per minute I type, I'm gonna look up a site later.
Edit, 68 WPM.
Edit again, took the test again and got 75 WPM.

Yeah, I guess I do. I don't follow the 'rules' of what fingers press what keys though. I have big hands, so I just use whatever key is most comfortable. For example, I press Y with my left index finger.

I sometimes use Pg Up/Pg Dn and Del.

Rest are garbage.
lol
that's not what OP meant.

teachers only teach the home keys because that's what THEIR teachers taught THEM, in the days when nobody knew stuff about computers.

I never have, Although if my fingers are in a different pllce then i think they are ot's mpyhpomh yp hp er;;

I use what I call "gamer row". Left hand positioned normally over WASD and right hand somewhere to the right, above the ijkl group. Type a line in chat and instantly go back to gaming. I get about 80-90 WPM using this method. I can go faster, but I make a lot of mistakes so it's not worth it.

Mine fingers tend to rest either on them or just above them.

I can touch-type now though, so that's not a problem really.
It most definitely helped me to learn to start from the home-row (or whatever you call them) when I was learning to type in school, since before then I could only go 1 key at a time, look, find, point and press.

The only difficulty is that, like tails, if my fingers find themselves in a different place for whatever reason, all my typing gets shifted over by a key, and it ends up rubbish.

Also, despite being able to touch-type and not have to look at the keyboard, or even the screen, I find that I make a lot more mistakes when the room is dark and the lights are off.
That would make sense if I was looking at the keyboard and couldn't see the keys, but seeing as how I'm not looking at them, I don't get how not being able to see them properly would affect me.
Unless I use my peripheral vision a lot.

I never use the home key. EVER

I type with two fingers...

when i was younger my mom always said "if you don't use home row then your teachers aren't going to accept any of your work"
that sort of this didn't go very well seeing as how i still type with only one hand
i can type decently fast this way and i don't make too many mistakes so i'm happy with my method

forget that stuff. both index fingers ftw.

well i got to get inside somehow...

No, I just place my fingers down someplace on the keyboard and begin typing.
