i don't think you read my entire post, in which case i can't help you any further then.
the laptop itself wont really work
if i cant turn off that beeping (which people have you cant) i wont be able to use it at school
plus the battery doesn't help
2 hour battery and a 7 hour school day. do the math.

What about a chromebook ($200 for an acer), or would they allow a tablet like a Windows Surface RT ($350 or $450 w/ keyboard)?

I fail to understand why you need a $500 laptop for school.

Presumably if you don't need it to play games, then you probably won't be doing anything processor or graphically intensive.

I come to the conclusion that all you'll be doing is everyday work such as writing documents and compiling data in excel, which can be achieved pretty well by a standard generic $200-300 laptop with Ubuntu (unless your school requires you to run some sort of windows-only program which cannot be run under Wine).

And if you do not have a laptop by the start of school I don't see what the teachers could possibly do to you, so I would worry about much apart from being behind on work (In which case you can just do the work on your home PC or with another friend who has a laptop, presuming you have a friend in the first place(not saying you don't or anything)).

Lastly, what's with buying a new laptop every year? Do you like consistently break them? From what I understood, you mentioned something about giving them in... But I somehow don't believe that.

ordered it a few days later, and today i decided to look at reviews, and i found out how stuffty it actually is.
Probably was a bad idea to sink money into a laptop without spending a few minutes to read the reviews.

i realized that

What do you need the laptop for in school?

Are there specific programs you need to use, or is it just general use for note taking and what not?

If you're not happy with it then return it as soon as possible and get another.
In the meantime use things like Notepad and Pen, and a hand-held calculator if you need those.

If the laptops are for you to access digital work, then maybe see about working with someone else while you can, or having some work forwarded to your home compute.

easy access to collaborative software, reliability, screen size, battery life, writing and presentation software, and a physical keyboard.

Sorry, so what, you need to use writing and presentation software?
Like Microsoft Word and Powerpoint?

Can't you for the meantime just write down on paper and transfer it over when you have a new laptop?
And are you expecting to have presentations to do in your first week?

Prep them at home. Bring it in on a memory stick.

maybe
i just want to be prepared

a netbook would do just as well, plus im sure they have outlets in the classrooms where you can plug in your computer lol

microsoft office stuff is pretty essential
but if you can't/don't want to pay for it, you could always get OpenOffice instead

... Or use libre office

I was thinking that.

A school that requires you to use laptops, but provides no plug sockets is pretty stuffty.

... Or use libre office
Either way there are always other free alternatives to Microsoft Office programs.

I think it's time to move to a new school...
This so much. Public schools aren't supposed to do mandatory "donations".

... Or use libre office
...why did you use an ellipsis...
