I don't really think that finding a patch of good in a sea of bad makes the good any better.

Besides, didn't you just get to California like a month or two ago?

There's still the issue of the surrounding neighborhoods and the people downtown. If you go walking anywhere in Detroit, you run the risk of getting shot, no matter what "nice" neighborhood you live in.

If you do wanna live in a good city, try looking up places in Chicago, New York, Atlanta, etc.

I love the Midwest so Chicago is perfect...
