swollow's not a hacker just because he used a loving IP location tracker that anyone anywhere can work.

You cannot justify being rude as hell and purposefully making another player uncomfortable when they asked you to stop.

you do realize by making a lot of complaints you yourself revealed that you live in that place? You could have faked living over a few towns but hey whatever.

As much of a richard as Swollow was about it, it was as harmless as being mean on the internet gets.

"Uh oh he knows where I live! I am in physical danger!"

your IP is public information
the location your ISP assigned to that IP is public information

I don't see the problem here

...idiot
IPs are public, not sure where swollow got it from unless you were hosting or he had console access on that server, but they can only be traced to a very rough location, if you get the city, you're lucky

He cannot figure out your name or address unless he works in your isp and has access to the database

do you really think anyone cares where you live? I held back your street address as a common courtesy
Still, NO!!!!111111111

There is no valid reason to do what Swollow did, this is information that is, yes, obtainable, but not everyone is fine with the information being given out freely.

You also make it out to seem like the guy didn't provide a valid reason for you to believe he was not okay with it, when one of the first things he said before you continued to give out information was "the forget do you need my IP?"

Noedit; but the only reason to continue giving out information, or to begin doing so is just an attempt to troll the guy.

holy crap guys

how would you feel if someone told you where you ate for breakfast this morning

or what online friends you have on your computer

or what you do in secret

sure, all of that is public and obtainable, but do you really want someone telling other people about it?

if swollow knew his street address and gave it out, that's not just "rough location" or "location of the isp"

that's his dead on address

Just by getting an IP doesn't mean anyone can find out all about that. You get a rough location, IPs can never usually give you an exact address. Most of the time, the town / city is off by a bit, so getting it precise isn't very common.

Of course, some people prefer this undisclosed, but it's not bad if someone does find out. Every single website you go on to might record your IP address, and the Blockland Forums probably has already done that anyway.

It's not going to cause real harm, because it seriously just gives you a rough estimate in terms of location.

To sum it up, some people don't want this information disclosed, and that's fine - it wouldn't be a good idea to annoy them and go against their will. Of course, silently many sites actually record the IP, but some people would trust them. But if someone actually does find out your IP, it's not so bad, they'll just get a rough estimate of where you live and nothing else.

-snip-
it doesn't have to be found directly by ip
what if a someone living in your neighbourhood told you about that stuff?
pretty creepy amirite
and besides

I'll be paying you a visit
Be sure to have some lubricating oil with you

he actually never told me to stop he just screamed "DUDE WHAT THE forget"
I honestly have no clue why this is dramable he asked everyone to ask him questions so I asked him if he lived there
if he really cared so much about his privacy and where he lived he wouldn't have reacted and would have said "no I don't live there"
Why would you do this in the first place.
Was it fun? Do you hate Chester? I mean there must be a reason.

he asked "ask me any questions" so I just asked him if he lived there and he freaked
