did you even read what you typed
seems pretty contradictory i know

what i should have said is...

I don't hate the idea of a new controller. I just hate this design.  I'm almost fairly certain that it will flop.

However; we won't know for sure until we get our hands on one.

well I decided not to edit

The buttons seem a little awkward for me (the a, x, b and y buttons), but I do like the touchscreen and how it can support custom APIs (for certain games) for custom UIs.

Looks nice anyways, but I don't know how well it would do with others.
To be fair, that's only four buttons, compared to the six easily accessible without having to lift your thumbs. It's the equivalent to, as someone said before, having to lift your thumb off of the right control stick on a PS3/Xbox controller to press the buttons. It's not like you're going to be using the central buttons very often.

Looks like the HL3 conspiracy crowd was disappointed again. At this point I have given up on the series and would rather see more multiplayer/co-op games with replay value. Also keyboard and mouse master race.

that still makes no sense at all

I wonder how long it will take for him to explain it in a way it will make sense.

At first I was disappointed, but then I read about it and it actually seems really nice. I've always had a bad time aiming with brown townog sticks and that's one of the main reasons I don't have a console.

I think I'll stick to my Xbox controller, that thing looks horrendous

There's still the 4 shoulder buttons AND two more buttons on each underside of the controller.

Those two buttons being to the left and right of the steam symbol on the right picture.
So that's eight buttons all together you can press WITHOUT moving your thumbs off the touch pads. Then you have the a, b, x, and y buttons. ON TOP OF ALL OF THAT is a touch pad that can be customized to your or the game creator's like.

yeah forget better products because they dont look like an xbox controller!!!!

It looks so weird

I LOVE IT.
We haven't really had a new innovative control layout since the PS2 and Xbox (Wii was more of a gimmick and wasn't really good for normal games).

(Wii was more of a gimmick and wasn't really good for normal games).
While throwing motion control out the window, the Wii controller was innovative, in that it was adaptable to multiple play styles, e.g. you could hold it sideways for a classic arcade-style feel, hold it forward to compliment a remote-control style gameplay, or connect a nunchuck to have the standard controller we all know, but with more freedom and space to move about.

that looks as weird as forget. i'm going to approach this with an open mind but hell is it gonna be hard to get used to that.

Seems pretty redundant with wireless keyboards and mice.

it's for people who don't want to use those ... in the livingroom .. with a steam machine .. do you even read into things?

pretty hard to use a keyboard and mouse in your lap
