Author Topic: Soft shadows  (Read 105879 times)

crespular rays, bloom, bokeh, reflections, and not-ugly water.
These would be amazing but I don't even know many games like blockland that are even close to this. Crepuscular rays would be almost useless since clouds are used very rarely and wouldn't look that great without 3d clouds, which we also don't have since blockland isn't some flight simulator. Not to mention how intensive all of this adds up to (bloom would probably be the lightest of them all from what I've seen). Something I'd like to see with soft shaders right now is that the softness of shadows are dynamic with distance from the ground/surface the shadows are being casted on, but even that seems to be unlikely to be accomplished.

i feel like an idiot now

This ruins blockiness of Blockland shaders, dummy

What.

So... turn them off.

wait so is there a download or what

instead of being unhelpful counterproductive loving twats you can post a nice clean tutorial on how to do this.

Full tutorial for everyone on how to install this.

Ultra
Normal

Steam Users:
If you are on a 64bit operating system go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\Blockland"

If you are on a 32bit operating system go to "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Blockland"
No image

Launcher Users:
G to "C:\Program Files\Steam\SteamApps\common\Blockland"
No image

Open the shaders folder and you will see 4 files. Open up the file called "renderCsm_frag.glsl"

Right click it and click "Open With..."
Windows 8 people should get a screen asking if you want to search the store, click more options and find your way down to Notepad. Windows 7 and down you have to figure this part out on your own but if you really can't, open up Notepad via the start menu and drag renderCsm_frag.glsl into the window.

You should see a window like that.
Now go back up to either the Normal or the Ultra version and pick one.
Note: If your computer isn't literally as powerful as NSA brown town Rape Machines, then you'll lag like crazy.
Hit ctrl a to select everything then click ctrl c to copy it all to your clipboard.
Then go back to your Notepad window, hit ctrl a to copy everything, then click ctrl v to replace everything with the new shader code.

Save it and close out of that window.

Now rightclick renderCsm_frag.glsl and go all the way down to properties.

click read only and apply

click ok.

You can now start up blockland and turn on shaders to experience lag beautiful shaders.

Uninstalling
Launcher Users:
Delete renderCsm_frag.glsl
Steam Users:
Repeat the process but use this shader. This is a backup of the original.
This won't work for me.
It doesn't give me the "open with" option.

did you manage to get sun rays?

did you manage to get sun rays?
Probably mist particles that are mostly hidden by the shadows

Sun rays can only be seen through particles, usually one of the fog emitters.
