maybe people feel better having something psychologically to fall back on when they need to

sure, maybe they have it solely because their parents forced it on them while they were young and gullible, but if they really believe in that religion, then you have no business criticizing or belittling it unless it actually causes you or others emotional/physical pain. that makes you no better than those crazy religious people that blather their obnoxious message all over the place in the face of people who don't want it.
