everything it made was really ugly and it was like 700 dollars, probably more for the plastic

My uncle actually works for that company. He recently had to return to hong kong to gethis permanent visa because he couldnt do it earlier as he was overflowed with work. My grandmas getting one from him soon, ill send pics when i can.

Nylon powder is not durable. Shapeways products use it, and I can assure you there's no one cheering for their stuffty plastic quality.

3d printers are so loving awesome
10 years ago normal printers cost the same amount as 3d printers today
and in 10 years, 3d printers will probably cost like 400 bucks apiece, affordable for everyone
and impractical? Lol
your son wants a new toy? print a dinosour
your rubics cube broke? print a new one
need a new keychain, phone case, or a piece to replace a broken door handle? interesting custom gadgets? print them all
cant wait to see this technology evolve

They're great but they're not practical for certain things. Tough, friction resistant plastics can't be printed, so for actual engineering setups, from action figure joints to a system of gears, you're going to want to have them molded.

This also won't be happening because of the chemical properties for plastics like this. They can't be formed as easily as ABS/etc is with the 3D printers. In fact, a more tough ABS or the like is incredibly difficult because of how 3D printers manufacture the models.

All true, Lalam, but they are quickly making progress. It is now possible to print certain metals with some still-in-testing machines.

yeah it's really impractical.
you print a cheap plastic, one color dinosaur that's likely the size of my thumb. it takes a lot longer than you think to make it.
also what the hell are you talking about printing a new rubics cube? it's not possible to do that. if it was, it would take an excruciatingly long time to print and you would probably have to assemble everything yourself.
the plastics are not durable at all. a printed lego piece is a fraction of how strong a real lego piece is.
