be careful yo. almost crashed tonight racing my friends lexus is300 on a road i've never raced on before. But i took a corner too fast and almost spun out and flipped stuff. i zoned completely out and only focused on regaining control, when i regained control i realized i was headed straight for a pole so i had to swerve quickly and it was kind of scary.

edit: real loving scary*

someone explain radar detectors to me
how can they help? they only work when there's actually one of the things being pointed at you car right? and it'll be too late then...

The cop who clocked me and gave me a ticket got me from between a 1/4 and 1/2 mile away. Those things are the devil. He was so far away that my better than 20/20 vision couldn't even tell that it was a police car.

My dad has one in his car and it finds cops way before they find him. It detects stores and such as well. It will beep and flash a light indicating what it is detecting (store, cop, and some other things)

saw a subaru GL station wagon in absolute stuff condition, completely rekt
there wasnt a spot on the car that wasnt rusty dented or both
but it still brought a smile to my face :D

I guess I can kinda understand how that can happen with the radar stuff, maybe, but what about the lasers?

Did I say something?

Well, three things. The radar signal travels much farther than it's effective measuring distance, so if the radar gun can pick up a vehicle from a quarter mile away, your radar detector will probably go off at more like a half mile away. Second, while a radar gun only measures the speed of an object in front of it, radar waves will pan out away from dead center where it can be picked up. Imagine taking a picture through a slot with your camera flash on inside a dark room: the entire room beyond the slot will be illuminated by the light, but you will only capture in the image stuff directly in front of the slot. So the radar gun doesn't have to technically be pointed at you for the signal to be picked up, just in your general direction. Third, radar guns are pretty ineffective at measuring the speed of an object that is accelerating or decelerating. So if the cop flicked the gun on at you within effective range and you were to hit your brakes instantly when your detector went off, there is a chance that it wouldn't be able to read your speed because of your deceleration until you'd hit a "safe" speed.

I guess I can kinda understand how that can happen with the radar stuff, maybe, but what about the lasers?

LIDAR is much more effective than radar and a LIDAR detector is more of a "you're forgeted" warning than anything. LIDAR measures speeds instantly regardless of acceleration or deceleration and can't easily be detected outside of its effective range. The only (semi) effective prophylactic measure against LIDAR is a jammer.

also trinick where can i get a jammer that sounds like cod stuff i want it lol

Jammers are currently illegal in many states. Do you mean a detector?

Totally fingers crossed here, but hopefully the problem with my car has been found.

After getting the used EGR valve and getting no change whatsoever, it came right down to my dad and I troubleshooting ourselves. My dad and I both did our own research and came down to these possibilities:

- faulty Idle Air Control (IAC) sensor
- faulty Crankshaft Position sensor
- faulty camshaft sensor
- faulty Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor
- faulty Throttle Body sensor
- malfunctioning ignition coil
- malfunctioning fuel pump
- disconnected/ruptured vacuum hose(s)

This afternoon, we went out to investigate the quality of everything under the hood. Other than a few exposed wires however, all we found was a damaged vacuum hose that connected to a fuel line. My dad picked up some new hose and a universal tee hose connector to fix the issue. It still had problems though, so we tested all the sensors by disconnecting them one by one restarting the car each time to see if there was any change. When we got to the MAF sensor, my dad disconnected it and I started the car. Lo and behold, it idled almost perfectly. He plugged it back in and the car died about three seconds later. MAF sensors cost around $100 brand new from most big retail stores (Advanced, AutoZone, etc). I was going to get a used one from a junkyard for $27 when my dad randomly stumbled across one brand new on Amazon for $33. I have it ordered and shipping now, so here's hoping that it makes my car driveable again.
