update oct 20: the kids came back and they throw stuff at my house now




basically a few times a week at night, 2 kids on their bikes ring my doorbell or pound on my front door, and then run away. anyone ever had this happen to them and what did you do?

things I've already done:

-calling non emergency police line: waited upwards of an hour, was on hold. then what so I say? random kids randomly ring my bell, sometimes? how does that help?
-set up a camera: it's too dark in my neighborhood to see anything. camera cant pick anything up.

would a motion sensing light be enough to scare them off? disconnecting my doorbell won't do stuff because they just pound on the door instead




also they're really bad at it. the kid puts his bike a good 60 feet from my front door and then slowly bikes away to hide behind a church and giggle with his friend and then they exchange lewinskys or whatever.

For the camera maybe you could attach a portable light somewhere near it

And maybe attach a sound recorder, so when you see them coming, you can activate it and it'll make this loud sound that'll scare them away

Use an infrared camera, catches heat wave signatures,  could solve your problem real fast

or put some tacks on your walkway so once they run up, BOOM thumbtacks stuck into their shoes and feet!

I've had this happen to me before. There would always be this forgeter banging on our door and running away. One day, the kid game knocking on the door again. My dad had enough of it and went outside and chased the boy down the sidewalk. He was right next to my room door. The kid stopped knocking after the incident.

Now, I will not be sarastic. When they knock, just run to the door, open it and yell at those kids unless they are teenagers. If they dont stop, as PurpleMetro said, you might want to put a sound recorder. If that does not work, try using a motion sensing light. It might scare them because a light flashes at them, and they know they have been caught. If all else fails, why not give them a taste of their own medicine and knock on their doors?
