Reddit threads on /r/steam, /r/games, /r/patientgamers

PSA: Infestation: Survivor Stories is War Z.
PSA: The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct by Terminal Reality, Inc. is not The Walking Dead by Telltale Games. The last one is the story heavy adventure game with moral choices and the cartoony graphical style.
PSA: Alien Colonial Marines is eugh.
PSA: Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs is just another game in the franchise and it has very little if any connection to Amnesia: The Dark Descent (Also on sale!) in terms of gameplay mechanics or story. A Machine for Pigs has a different developer. Definitely check some reviews before getting this. It does not have the same feel as the first game.

Reddit recommends With a couple personal picks

The Walking Dead by Telltale Games
Episodic. You should know about this game already, if not, Google it now. DLC on Amazon with PC & Mac keys for $1.25.

Fallout: New Vegas and Fallout 3 by Obsidian Entertainment and Bethesda Game Studios
Classic, classic games. Both games are similar so I suggest you do some personal research before deciding which one to buy if you can only afford one. Both games have potentially hundreds of hours of content. Both games are separate entities and are not directly connect by story elements.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines by Troika Games
Named by some as one of the 15 best RPGs ever. Highly overlooked. I recommend doing a little research on this, I personally wasn't sold by the Steam page but after looking into it now I am considering buying it. Note: Do research on the community patches, the game could have been incredible and an instant classic but it was released half finished.

BioShock 1 and 2 by 2K Games
Classic. You have heard of these games. Apparently the pack is cheaper on Amazon, I couldn't find it.

The Swapper by Facepalm Games
Superb puzzle game with fantastic atmosphere.

Borderlands by Gearbox Software
Great fun with friends, not so much alone.

Sleeping Dogs by United Front Games
Really cheap for such an extensive game. Has the feel of GTA but with a stronge story. (Personal opinion.) Check it out!

Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons by Starbreeze Studios AB
An atmospheric puzzle game with a clever control mechanic. Note: REQUIRES controller!

Alan Wake series by Remedy Entertainment
If you're into horror games you already know about this series but just to be sure, check it out.

Deadly Premonition: The Director's Cut by Access Games (Designer Swery65 is also often mentioned)
A cult classic that you will either love or hate. It's very quirky and the story is rather... odd. It's got elements of a visual novel and some feel that the actiony shooty parts were put in later on to make game appeal to a wider audience. I don't think there's much replayability as I don't recall there being many, if any, choices in the game that change the story. And story is the only reason to be playing this game. (Personal opinion.) It's only 10% off so I'd recommend waiting for a better discount.

The Wolf Among Us by Telltale Games
Episodic. It has that same The Walking Dead feel to but with a radically different setting. This time there's trouble in Fabletown where you come across characters from old stories such as Little Red Riding Hood, Snow White, and The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.

Dead Space series by EA Redwood Shores, Visceral Games
Horror games galore!

Left 4 Dead series by Valve
If it moves you shoot it till it stops moving. Unless it's carrying a gun. I don't need to explain anything about this game, you already have it in your Steam library and most likely have 50-500 hours played.

Costume Quest by Double Fine Productions
Incredible Halloween atmosphere with that child-like wonder of collecting thousands upon thousands of candy. And beating ugly trolls into a mush with your 30 feet sword while your buddies are throwing french fries and missiles at the other goblins. Superb game but sadly very grindy. The story, visuals, dialogue (text only), and atmosphere are in my opinion amazing. I love the game and it's among my favorite games of all time but the combat is far too grindy for me to have completed the game. And there is a lot of combat. It's essentially a simplified JPRG.

LIMBO by Playdead
A great puzzle game with original visuals. If you like puzzle games you need to buy this game right now.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent by Frictional Games
A great horror game with innovative mechanics and a superb atmosphere!

Penumbra series by Frictional Games
More great horror games from Frictional Games!

Home and Lone Survivor by   Benjamin Rivers and Jasper Byrne
Both are pixely horror games with a great atmosphere. If a an atmospheric retro horror sounds like fun, you know what to do.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare by Darkworks, Spiral House
(It's cheaper on GOG but also available on Steam.) A recentish installment of the classic horror game series.

Outlast by Red Barrels
A recently released horror game with lots, lots, and lots of blood and guts everywhere. Seems to rely more on jump scares than atmosphere. It's a very dark game both visually and metaphorically.

If you want something really cheap, Ghost Master is a cute little old game about scaring people out of a house.
