ok i moved my farm to the open space, and i'm gonna clear out an area for a cactus farm.

Reinforce the outer walls by swapping out the sand for sandstone. Then just replace the floor with dirt. Lead some grass in there and now you've got a cool glass chamber with a grassy floor in the middle of the desert!

once you get a ton of cacti, use them to make a giant wall except with gaps between the cacti. Mobs won't be smart enough to weave through it. It's like a semi-permiable wall that kills mobs. Surround your property with this wall.

If you were playing multiplayer i would suggest a sugarcane farm for big $$dosh$$ but you're not so i dunno.
