Subtract 50 years from the plot so it is in 1830s and slavery is still legal because currently it is post civil war and I don't think Mexicans had slaves. As well this sets it back to when settling the west was a thing.

so what would the problem be with rewriting a few numbers than be 50 years earlier? I don't think it would be much work.

Because what is said is said, changing a number on the lore will barely effect the game play, plus things in game are related to the date.
