Author Topic: To all skilled scripters, modellers, builders, eventers, etc...  (Read 5904 times)

but the main point of the topic is that you're not more powerful over those people who don't exactly know what you know.
the president is more powerful than us because he knows more about politics than us, which made him president.
xalos' point is flawed.

theres a difference between knowing your stuff and being pretentious about knowing your stuff; its not like youre wrong in not accepting being spoken down to but you are wrong if you dont accept advice at all in the first place

like for someone who knows what they're doing it's fine to give criticism but it's not fine to criticize someone and then insult them for not getting it right the first time

NOEDIT:You've completely missed the point of the topic. Frankly, I've seen your attitude to other builders or server hosts and you have tried to give them a lot of criticism like you own the server.
i usually give people advice because my presence on a server seems to imply that, by default, i am here to critique it (which isnt so bad actually)

its not like i dont stop when people ask me to or anything. at least in circumstances where its clear that the host accepts my critique as valid and just doesn't agree (possibly even posing counterpoints that i can't argue against) and isnt trying to shut me up because i dared to criticize in the first place

the entire topic is really unclear on whether someone actually and deliberately insulted op and used their title as 'good at things' as a weapon to prove their dominance, or xalos was actually legitimately criticized and took it entirely the wrong way, or possibly even some combination of the above

the president is more powerful than us because he knows more about politics than us, which made him president.
xalos' point is flawed.
The President shouldn't be a dictator and he should respect his citizens.

the fact that an easily-overlooked flaw is easily overlooked doesnt make it any less of a flaw

suggesting a solution to a perceived issue is perfectly fine and it sounds like you're either being overly sensitive to criticism (which seems like it'd be plausible considering you have made a drama topic about this) or the person in question said nothing but that there was a flaw and pestering the server

your stuff is not above critique, and nobody's is. the fact that someone has more skill or experience in a field doesnt necessarily mean that their solutions or understandings of a topic are correct all the time but it is a pretty good pedigree as to them getting it right substantially more often

like if you were to choose between some guy off the street and a professional plumber to fix your pipes and money wasn't an issue you'd always pick the plumber, because even if the plumber ends up breaking something there's way less of a chance then some random unskilled idiot

incidentally why the forget are you putting paragraph gaps in your drama topic

incidentally incidentally was the stem of this topic pandan

im not stuffting on pandan or anything like that is a serious question. did pandan cause this conflict to happen
To be fair there are some cases where people really are just richards.
Brian Smith comes to mind as an example.

I remember how I made a more realistic sounding addon that changes the death sounds and randomizes them.
Everybody almost immediately jumped a boycott except for a few, claiming it sounded ~so dreadfully like children~ like it was child abuse I recorded or something, and when MegaGuy released the same thing but changed the sounds, everybody literally bent over and dropped their clothes. Not exactly the same but holy crap, wow.

BINGO
You are already doing this wrong.

this horse stuff

i see it in coding help, help, S&R, loving everywhere

"no, you're wrong."
"... and? are you going to explain how?"

it's the most passive starfish attitude i've ever seen

there's a group of seriously horsestuff coders on this forum - brian smith (conveniently, BS) elm (although he's gone now)
then there's some actually decent ones - ipquarx, greek2me, trinick is pretty good

i don't care how good of a coder you are, if you're not an starfish and are actually trying to help, you're on the right track

this drama gets a major support from me

Yeah, sorry, but Brian Smith always seems to have a spiky twig up his ass.

-complete topic miss-

I'm not complaining about critique. That would be stupid. I'm complaining about the form in which the critique comes from.

Constructive criticism: "Excuse me, I suspect your package of GameConnection::createPlayer isn't working properly."
This topic's point: "You're a loving handicap. You can't even package a simple spawning function correctly. Now use GameConnection::onDeath instead."

its funny 'cause Xalos used to do it to me. not anymore though.

I agree. However, even when I did, I at least had the humility to admit it when I realized that I was the one who screwed up.
"Oh, hurr, I'm a moron. You were doing it right already."

modders can all go forget off. you are 50% the reason no one builds on blockland anymore. you are enablers.

-elitist richard snip-

Have fun in your completely vanilla Blockland. Oh and since you hate all modders, you can't even play with the default add-ons enabled.
Because those are ... say it with me now ... mods.

Also Badspot has made mods and is thus a - again, say it with me - modder.

But that's an argument for another drama topic.

"modders ruin blockland" By Bisjac

but yeah that's totally not the point (no sarcasm)

i agree with the topic

i do have fun in my vanilla blockland. and when my servers are up, i have more building and higher population than anyone. its been the case for the better pat of 6 years.

forget you kalphiter

lol
